When to first give meat?

I'm a veggie, so meat is somewhat beyond me. DS will now eat anything put in front of him, but meat is not a favourite, and we did have awful battles with food at age of 1. DD is now nearly 7 mths, and eating beautifully anything given, but as yet I have not given her meat. When did others give meat first? And what kind? Chicken, mince, pork?! All helpful tips, recipes etc gratefully received!!

And another thing - how do you meat eaters mash it up for babies?!?

I gave it at around 7-8 months and whizzed meals up with blender. I mostly used chicken, mined beef and fish. HTH.

After 6 months I think. No idea about how to give it coz we're veggie too and not planning on giving DS meat. No doubt he'll be toddling off to the nearest McDs as soon as he can walk unaided Grin

I used meat as a finger food, from about 6 months (weaned at 4 months. Or used decent quality mince to make mini cottage pies or pasta sauces.

i used a \link{http://www.moulinex.co.uk/pages/images/CAvegetb_img_main.jpg\mouli} to "mince" eg chicken

I gave dp beef cassarole this week for the first time - he's 8mths. I wizzed it up with the hand held blender in the cassorarole dish!

The advice when I was weaning dd was not to give it until 9 months, but I left it until much later. I'm veggie but dh isn't so we always intended to give dd meat, but I wouldn't give it while I was still having to try her food to test it for temperature. She was probably about 2 when she first started to eat meat - old enough that she didn't need it testing, and well past the stage of needing it mashing up!

Thank you all - very helpful. Shall stop panicking about it and just take it as it comes!!
