switching from bottle to beaker

Bangonthedoor · 19/01/2013 15:48

8 month old dd is having 3 meals a day plus two snacks AND 4 8oz bottles!!

She has water throughout the day using a sippy cup.

The question is when should i start giving her her milk feeds in a beaker instead of bottles??

Also how hard/easy was it to switch yours over to a beaker?

TIA x

its advised to stop bottles for milk around 1 year. You could try swapping one of the daytime feeds into a cup and see how she gets on with it while leaving the rest in the bottle. There is no great rush just yet though.

My DS is about to turn 13 months next week and he refuses to take his milk in anything other than a bottle, I was really surprised as he will always eat and drink everything given to him whether it be from spoons cups or practically off the floor.

Have tried multiple beakers and his doidy and he pushes them away but will chug it from bottle so it's definitely an objection to not being in his tommee tippee bottle I would introduce gradually from now though I too am not sure what type beaker is best

Me neither figgy ive got so many beakers which are all different but im not sure which is the better one to use. Plus at the moment she can hold her own bottle really easily but she cant hold a beaker.

if you have avent bottles amazon sell 2 beaker spouts for £3 that replace the teats.

ds is 10.5 months and were using these now as he has got on really well with them

Bangonthedoor · 21/01/2013 22:26

Thank you littlemiss but ive got tommee tippee ones. Do you happen to know if they also do spouts?

can't see anything but might be worth emailing tommee tippee to ask

Bangonthedoor what you want is these www.tommeetippee.co.uk/product/first-sips-cup/ I think. They'll take the teats from tommee tippee bottles. But I went for the first cup since soft spouts aren't actually good for the teeth. They should be going to free flow or a proper cup at 1 year old. Have a look at

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/drinks-and-cups-children.aspx

And see Using an open cup or a free-flow cup without a valve will help your baby learn to sip rather than suck, which is better for their teeth Basically it's pointless to switch to a soft spout because that just makes you feel better your little is using a 'cup'. But they aren't cups in the sense the baby is still sucking, but drinking from a pouring vessel, iyswim.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 22/01/2013 10:44

I mean they are still sucking on a soft spout, not sipping or drinking like us adults.

the avent ones are free flow and hard so no different from a beaker if you get the green 12 month + ones
