DS loves weetabix for brekky - is this a bad thing?

Ds is 7 months and LOVES weetabix for breakfast. He has it almost every day as it's quick for me and yummy for him. Is this a bad thing? SHould I be giving him a million other choices of exotic fruit or whatever (AK fans out there!) If I have time and the inclination I'll mash a banana but most of the time it's weetabix. Am I a bad mother?

do you REALLY think you are

really?

AllieBongo · 20/04/2006 22:01

awful. give him cocoa pops Wink

snafu · 20/04/2006 22:02

'It's quick for me and yummy for him' - you should be in advertising Grin

Hattie05 · 20/04/2006 22:03

i used to offer a million other choices. DD quickly decided weetabix was the only one and its been that way for the last three years!

I was the same as a child, only i was lucky enough to live in an era when my mother made it with hot milk and a tonne of brown sugar Grin

AllieBongo · 20/04/2006 22:03

hello snafster. do some work

shoobaloo · 20/04/2006 22:04

I don't think I am, but having just had a quick look through AK meal planner, am wondering if I should be giving him more variety. But then I only ever have weetabix for breakfast myself! Would love it if someone made me a more exotic breakfast, but that's not going to happen anytime soon! ha ha!

AK must have a cleaner, a nanny and loads of money to feed her kids all that..i haven't got time to faff around. weetabix or ready brek in our house

Hattie05 · 20/04/2006 22:05

My dd sometimes gets exotic marmite on toast Grin but that has too much salt for a 7mth old.

cod · 20/04/2006 22:05

oh ak talks bollox
mine had bana ana lone fro months

Surfermum · 20/04/2006 22:06

DD (2.11) has always loved weetabix. I'm intending on giving it to her until she's begging for coco-pops. Can't be doing with faffing around with food that early in the morning. I do occasionally mash a banana into the weetabix though to get one of her five a day into her.

snafu · 20/04/2006 22:06

Hello allie, don't remind me. I'm in hiding from myself.

cod · 20/04/2006 22:06

banana a lone

kid · 20/04/2006 22:08

At least he is eating breakfast. DD (7 yrs) refuses to eat anything for breakfast Sad

Surfermum · 20/04/2006 22:09

I figured I had the whole of the rest of the day (when I was more awake) to give her the variety.

MrsSpoon · 20/04/2006 22:09

My DS1 was about 5 before he realised there were other types of cereal other than weetabix. AK should be burnt at the stake, or at least her books should. I don't know any mother who has time for all that faffing. Good home cooked food, yes but in the shape of a Rhinocerous, no.

AllieBongo · 20/04/2006 22:10

AK will be the next fina gord law suit

Ironmaiden · 25/04/2006 14:05

I read a book about boosting immune systems in babies and it said if u give the same thing every day they'll be an increaced risk of causing allergy later on. Alternate with weetabix and porridge or something.

waterfalls · 25/04/2006 14:11

My dts love Bran Flakes, with warm milk, (no sugar) not sure it's suitable for a 7month old though.

mother3 · 29/04/2006 02:12

They like what they like at that age but eventualy try to vary it .He is only 7 months old so dont worry, his tastes will change. To young to worry about it now.You seem insecure to think you are a bad mother .WHat does he eat other times .He is still young to be weaned YET.Just try different tastes and he will like them eventualy.Hope it all goes well.:)

ghosty · 29/04/2006 02:24

Every so often I get all virtuous and decide to get AK out, planning to cook something yummy and nutritious ...
I flick through it, then get narked off and put it back on the shelf ...
Bloody Sleeping Bloody Canneloni ...WTF????? Show me someone who makes that and I'll show you someone who has far too much time on their hands Grin

schneebly · 29/04/2006 07:33

my ds1 (2.8) asks for a cheese and ham sandwich every day for lunch and I probably give it to him 70% of the time because his other 2 meals and his snacks are more varied. I think as long as other meals are different and there is a good overall balance it is probably okay.

TwoToTango · 29/04/2006 08:03

There are lots worse things he could like. My DS had weetabix (and sometimes a piece of toast) nearly every morning from when he was 1 until recently - he is nearly 6. He would live on weetabix, cheese sandwiches and sausages if I let him!!
