8 m DS - Good Eater - but why are there always tears?

Hi,
Started weaning DS with 6 months and he's really enjoying his food, probably a bit too much as he went up a percentile and would eat anything (yesterday he ate a few slices of lemon!).

However, 7 out of 10 times he cries und screams at some point, either at the start after 2 spoons in or middle or the end. If I stop feeding him he pulls towards his plate and only stops when I start feeding him again. The only times this does not happen is when he eats bread. He could eat it all day long.

I replaced 2 meals so far and I'm holding off to replace one more bfeed as I find it difficult to cope with meal times.

Has someone else had this problem? Will they outgrow it (before he's able to order in a restaurant)??

Thanks, Thali

Could he just be too hungry? Are you bfing an hour before offering solids?

Teething?

Agree could just as easily be teething. Can you feel any teeth coming through? If so, have you tried applying a teething gel, like Dentinox, before offering solids?

No helpful advice here I'm afraid, but just giving support as I have a similar issue with my 7mo dd. We have tears at every mealtime - sometimes when she doesn't want to eat at all and other times when she actually seems to be enjoying the food. It's frustrating isn't - makes me feel a bit sad as she really isn't a crying type baby and I'm Hmm that it's over food. Also fills you with uncertainty about what you might be doing wrong. The only thing I've found that calms her down again is giving her a piece of orange - strange child!

oh well .... no, no signs of teething. and yes blush, he hardly cries and if so, it's about food. And the worry - is it too much, not at all? I just had him weight again and he's up 2 lines now. So in a way I'm doing him too much good or no good at all, sigh.

My son does this a lot (7.5 months). Moans at me when I feed him too slowly but will happily chomp on a breadstick. I think he is frustrated as perhaps, being used to breastmilk, which is fast and on tap, spoon feeding is much slower? He also hates it when we are eating and he is left out! I offer him water during and after the meal to help his digestion. I like to pad the meal out to 20 minutes, to ensure that he stops when he feels full.

I haven't had him weighed since I started weaning, which was 2 months ago. I have upped his meals to 3 a day, plus at least two snacks or desserts. He has NOT dropped a breastfeed either- I'm giving 4/5 feeds in 24h! He was on the 98th centile last time I checked. I'd say go by his cues, and not his weight gain, especially if he is mobile now. Hope this helps X
