Can dd have cooked honey?

Dh wants to do a honey glazed ham for Boxing Day. Dd is 8 months old. I've just done a quick search online and advice is to avoid it even if cooked. Dh reckons as it's just a glaze it'll be ok, just give her a middle bit.

Yes, cooked honey is fine.

No, cooked honey is not necessarily fine. However a roasted ham may be, to kill the botulism spores you need a temperature of over 121 degrees for at least 30 minutes. Now roasting a ham may get that in the glaze - it's the actual temperature of the glaze not the air in the oven, and the chances of their being any spores in the "middle bit" will also be very unlikely so it may well be fine. It's extremely rare anyway so honey is likely to be fine, but it's a risk that's not normally worth taking, it could be the same with the ham.

Honey in things like muffins will not get hot enough, which is why it's not safe to be used in cooking.

While the chances are very rare in a roasted ham - why not just have a marmalade roasted ham or something instead?

Thanks. Thinking about it, as the ham is carved, spores could be spread into the middle. Not worth chancing really.
