Rapid weaning?!

I'm all for the slow and steady, food is fun before they're one approach. DD (now 3) loved BLW and thrived on it.

However, I am in the position of having to get 5 month old DS to eat solid food so that I can get his feeding tube out and get us out of hospital! He's in for 'failure to thrive' made worse by norovirus last weekend.

He's quite able with his hands but tiny and slumpy when sitting. DH is bringing our bumbo today as the high chairs here are not supportive. He had some fun with a doidy cup yesterday and liked getting the milk in his mouth. The day before, he refused all attempts by a nurse to spoon feed him.

Any tips for getting this to work? It feels quite against how I'd really choose to approach it, but I've accepted it as the way to go and need this NG tube out!

Sorry can't help in terms of feeding tube info, but hope someone else can, so I'm bumping your thread x

Don't know sorry rose. There are a couple of failure to thrive threads in the breast and bottle section at the moment which might be helpful.

Hopefully this will bump for you though Xmas Smile

Thank you for bumping. He's done surprisingly well today - I'm desperate to have the tube out! He's managed some baby rice mixed with his high calorie formula, holding the spoon himself. And enjoyed smooshing some banana into his mouth too. He drank some infatrini from a doidy cup (a very small amount, but keen) and then, amazingly, from a bottle. By the end of the day he was managing half his scheduled top ups with bottle or cup.

He's had several baths...!

Glad tobhearvthatvtoday has been better. If the formula is top ups, does that mean you are bfing? If so, have you called one of the helplines?
