Constipated 7.5 mo, eats 2 fruits a day

My 7 and a half month old has 4 or 5 milk feeds and 3 meals a day. She doesn't have any water or juice from a sippy cup as she simply hasn't got it yet, although we've tried for 2 months.

She is quite constipated in that she strains to poo and will go 4 or so times a day at the moment but they are rock solid and often like pellets! This has only got like this in the last week or so.

I'm surprised as she has baby cereal for brekkie, veg (sometimes with chicken) purée for lunch plus pear or strawberry purée and again something similar for dinner. She's having lots of the fruit so I'm not sure what else I can do to loosen her up?

Any ideas?

Sorry!

Mine went through similar - have you tried prunes or increasing their milk consumption (even just temporarily)?

What kind of milk feeds - breast or formula? I've just started mine on follow on milk, and found he's a bit constipated, so I'm now giving him a little (2oz) of water in the middle of the day. Seems to be helping.

Maybe cut out the baby cereal for a few days. Just offer some milk/ natural yogurt and fruit instead and see.

happyfrogger · 03/12/2012 13:13

The feeds are all breastfeeds, although she has dropped the dreamfeed in the last 3 days. That being said she seems to spend longer on the breast in the other feeds now so I'm sure she's getting enough - I don't think that's it. I just wondered if there may be any particular veggies that can have this effect - I peel everything but she has all sorts.

Unfortunately she reacts horribly when I eat diary so I dare not try her on any natural yoghurt etc.

My 8 mth DD is a bit like this but I am just recently formula feeding her but find I have to give her water in a bottle as well at other times to feeds. Will she take a bottle?

forevergreek · 03/12/2012 13:24

Can you try soya yogurt?

Otherwise melon is pretty watery, and apricots/ dates

gallivantsaregood · 03/12/2012 13:43

Give her water in s bottle. Ic that doesnt help can you buy some ground flax seed/ linseed ( same thing). A little in her food should do the trick

Flisspaps · 03/12/2012 13:54

If the fruit includes banana, stop giving it as it's very 'clogging'!
