Crying? Normal? blw

Ok, so we started this morning. She is 6 months today and gave her some porridge fingers and banana slices. She seemed really happy picking them up, then they went in the mouth and the tears started. She cried when it hit her mouth. Not really understanding why, she grabs at our food and seems to want it. Great co-ordination in getting it to her mouth. Just seems like she completely freaked out at the taste of both.
No idea what to do, do I continue? Will she get better? Has this happened to anyone else? Everyone else I know who did BLW took to it instantly. No tears at all.
She was fed normally about 45 minutes before, she wasn't tired, also been sat in her highchair for the past two months so is happy to watch us eat.
Have I done something wrong or is it just the taste is freaking her out?
Thanks

Who knows what was wrong, she's 6 months old she may not know herself, just try again and don't worry.

We started this weekend too. No tears but his expression was kinda wtf is this you're giving me mother. He wasn't overjoyed by the experience. Keep going things will get better I'm sure.

she might just not like banana, seriously. mine didn't. it's a big flavour. it was probably a total wtf moment for her, after 6 months of milk.
what about steamed carrot and broccoli? or sticks of cucumber, or... blandest of the bland... rice cakes?

Weezie85 · 02/12/2012 10:51

Will be trying veg later, just thought banana and porridge fingers. Porridge was made using expressed milk so thought she would at least be ok with that taste. Although the porridge didn't freak her out as much as the banana.

Just a quick question but where can you find plain rice cakes? Looked in local supermarket and they all have flavours. Couldn't find any that where literally plain except the tiny baby ones? Are they ok to give her when she is just starting out? I have no idea what I am doing, does it show? Haha

the baby ones were probably the only baby food product we ever bought... oh, and moon biscuits, actually. two things from that aisle, though, not bad.

Just keep trying. I read an article lately (can't remember where I'm afraid) that said that babies' taste buds are way more sensitive than ours. They made a banana flavour to imitate the way it would taste to a baby and it was apparently really overpowering, which lots of babies like, but maybe yours doesn't have sweet tooth!

The little rice cakes should be fine.

The little rice cakes are fine, I'm using these for my 6 month old.
Also, if you're up for baking then I've found that he loves the banana biscuits on this website.

Oh, love baking so will give these a go. Thank you. :)
Didn't think of it being overpowering at all, which is silly really because all she has had is mummys milk so anything is a different taste.
