Cheese strings vs Normal Cheese

I have this feeling that cheese strings are a no no and normal cheese is better. However I looked at some in the supermarket today and it just seems to be 100% cheese. I had them up there with fruit shoots and greggs sausage rolls.

I know they are quite salty but are they more salty than normal cheese?
Is this an unjustified taboo?

Well they're hideously expensive even for cheese. But the ones that are just cheese - are just cheese, so not really any different from any other cheese, normally they're a mild cheddar (sometimes orange coloured just like orange cheddar which is common in some places).

Given that you're not getting the nice flavour of a decent mature cheddar, I'd probably suggest something lower in salt - mozarella maybe which has a bit of a more string like texture and normally roughly half the salt? And normally quite a lot cheaper!
