Vomit everywhere... Now what

What do you do when your LO throws up? Do you carry on feeding him the same? Move to something else? Give up? Give him/her a bottle?
Any input is greatly appreciated?

Is he ill? It sounds like it if there's vomit everywhere rather than a bit of food being spat out.

My DSs (2.11 and 9 months) have just had a vomiting bug and I switched to liquids (BM in the case of the baby) to keep them hydrated until they had recovered.

If it's a regular thing, perhaps consider allergies and a trip to the docs? Vomiting wasn't a regular feature in weaning either of my boys - spitting out, cats-bum-mouth yes, vomiting, no.

No, he's fine. Teething but, that's normal. I think that he has a very sensitive gag reflex, he was never diagnosed with reflux although he was seen by the gp about it.

Is it a recent thing Miau or has this been going on for a while?

Stop feeding at that meal and go slowly. Let himself feed and if he's fussy that might be a sign something's up.

JiltedJohnsJulie he has always been like this. If there is a lump in his puree he'll sometimes do a full exorcist.
He is getting better and if either he is controlling the food or if I give him little bits of food in his mouth he's usually fine. He is learning how to cope with having bits of food in his mouth much better and this isn't a daily occurrence. Yesterday for example was lovely, he had grilled chicken, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and crumpet and dealt with everything really well and Saturday I shared my pub lunch with him :)
But, today everything went backwards when he gagged on some avocado because he was being greedy and shoved everything in his mouth in one go. I decided to stop everything and took him out for lunch where he again had a bit of my food.

Sometimes trouble with solids like this can be a sign of tongue tie.

How did he do with feeding before solids?

My DS2 used to bring every back up. he still does at breakfast time if he gulps his drink down too quickly ( bowl at the ready). Then he'd get some toast and continue like nothing happened whilst his older brother and I were going green ( we don't like vomit at all).

I found giving him small bits at a time ( he is a fast eater) helped and us being social at the table so lots of chat whilst we ate.

mawbroon he was born with a tongue tie but, it was diagnosed when he was just a week old and consequently it was fixed. I was never able to bf properly because I didn't have any milk when he was born and even though I was given domperidone, it was never enough for him. Also when he was bfed I had to use a silicon nipple.

Surprisingly things like rice cakes or banana don't seem to bother him much. I guess that it is a learning curve, and my LOs is just a little wobbly

I am wondering if his tongue is still restricted MiauMau especially after hearing that breastfeeding didn't go well even after the snip.

There are several possibilities here. One is that the snip healed back together (totally possible, you cut the body and it tries to heal). If there is no after care done then this can happen, especially with a posterior tie, and I am willing to bet that you weren't told to stretch the site afterwards.

Another possibility is that the snip wasn't done deeply enough and the tie was never properly released (for a posterior tie).

Or, it is possible that an anterior tie can be snipped leaving a posterior tie in place.

Has he got any other tongue tie related problems? Sleeping/digestive problems/high palate for example?

DS1 had undiagnosed posterior tongue tie and although he didn't vomit with solids, he had trouble with certain textures, interestingly avocado was one, which you also mentioned for your ds. He used to gag on stringy things like squash and he couldn't chew small stuff like peas which came out completely undigested at the other end.

We did do the after care massages, followed all the instructions very closely. We took him back mid way through the healing process and the lactation specialist had to unstick his tongue.
I'm not sure if the tongue tie is the issue here, there are a lot of things in the article that don't apply to my DS, he doesn't snore for example, he sleeps from 8pm until 5 or 6am (most times uninterrupted), no high palate or seems to have problems with food texture or even bits of food coming out of the other end undigested. He choked on the avocado because he shoved a huge chunk of it in his mouth.
I have thought about the tongue tie as an issue but, a lot of things don't quite add up. Most of the time he is fine with his food, he has gone off of his vegetable purees and prefers to control his own food, he pokes his tongue out really well and when he is eating I can see his little tongue moving around his mouth, dealing with the food. Sometimes he starts gagging but, manages to control it and keeps on chewing.
But, I'll have a look into it anyway, thank you for your suggestions
