You can give cow's milk as part of their diet - in puddings, cheese etc - from six months, but their bottle feeds have to be forumula. Cows' milk doesn't have high enough iron levels, so can hinder development of the brain and other things, I think. Perhaps he's just gone off the SMA progress? I've just switched to Hipp Organic progress milk - it tastes better than SMA. I've tried it!

Ledodgy · 27/03/2006 13:19

Ahh yeah that was it K7. I gave my dd sma progress anyway as I was worried she wasn't getting enough iron.

Forgot to add - should be formula milk for the first year. After that, cows milk is fine.

i give my 7 month cows milk as she kept being really sick on form she used to be a angry baby on form now on cows she seems happy and stoped being sick do what u think is right for ur baby if worried bout iron u can get vit to put in bottle

CorrieDale · 28/03/2006 19:34

I don't think it's just a lack of iron that's the problem - cow's milk is harder to digest, and formula has been tweaked in some way to remove that problem. Formula has also added vitamins and other nutrients, not just iron. That's why you need to wait until your baby is 12 months before you give cow's milk as a drink. A friend of mine had this same problem and tried another formula brand, successfully. I'd experiment with the ready-made cartons if I were you, until you find one DS likes.
