There are 5 of us: me, dh, ds 7, dd1 5, dd2 8.5 months.
We have a milkman who delivers as follows:
dh/me-1pt skimmed,
ds/dd1 - 1pt semi
3 times a week.
in addition we buy extra from the shop at the weekend.

DD2 now has full fat in/on her food and in a few months will drink it too. I'm wondering whether to get a bottle delivered but then i'll have 3 kinds in the fridge. I'm thinking I can freeze some and get it out daily so it lasts but that seems a bit faffy.

What do you do if you need 3 kinds of milk?

How much milk will a 1yr old get through?

What age can a child have semi-skimmed milk from?

What age do children stop needing semi-skimned milk and can start having skimmed?

Sorry lots of questions, probably need to ask the HV.

TIA :)

NHS says 5 years old when they can change to skimmed. See

www.healthystart.nhs.uk/food-and-health-tips/milk/

How about just switching to semi-skimmed to simplify things a bit? That's what me and DH drinks.

Thanks for replying. I can't swap as i have to watch cholesterol levels. Wonder why schools provide semi-skimmed if skimmed is ok at 5. If that's right i wouldn't need semi anymore.

We just have whole milk.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 11/10/2012 13:41

mumnosbest it's 2-5 for semi-skimmed. So it's from 6 sorry. Just bad wording in my part.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 11/10/2012 13:42

But your 5yo can share the whole milk with the baby, and the rest of you have skimmed?

hazeyjane · 11/10/2012 13:44

We only have semi skimmed (for us and dds) and whole for ds (2.3 - 2 bottles of milk a day + cereal)

We have a whole shelf in fridge devoted to milk, and have the following deliveries

Tues and Thurs - 2 whole + 3 semi skimmed
Sat - 3 whole + 4 semi skimmed

Thanks that link is very useful. I think i'll stop buying semi untill dd2 is 2.
