Not taking solids

My ds1 (now nearly 7 months) was weaned at about 5 months due to problems with reflux and not putting on weight. For ages he ate brilliantly - in fact he was a right little piggy. But for the past couple of weeks he is refusing to eat any solids. Now and then he will have a couple of spoonfuls before refusing. He isn't ill, he has had two teeth come through about 3 weeks ago and generally seems happy. He is drinking all of his bottles.

Hv says he's choosing milk over solids and not to give milk when he refuses the solids. I am now giving him breakfast with a bottle, lunch, bottle at 3pm, tea, bottle at 7pm. With no milk at all at lunch and tea (water instead).

HELP any ideas to get him eating again???

maybe the next pair of teeth is coming through?

I think it's a bit dodgy to refuse milk to a 7mo tbh.

have you tried finger food (e.g. toast, chunks of cooked veg etc)?

Have begun to try some finger food but so far he's not sure what to do with it. Doesn't quite understand he can eat it!!

I make sure he drinks all his 3 bottles of 8floz every day.

Hv said he should be having 20floz of milk a day so I am at least doing that. But other people I've spoken to are saying the same as you. So don't know what to do.
Either way he's still not keen on eating with or without having a bottle at the same time.
p.s., can you freeze mango and then reheat it?!!

Jmum,
It does sounds like teething or just a phase he's going through. Either way, I wouldn't worry - just give him the milk for the time being and maybe try solids again in a week or so....

gingernutlover · 20/03/2006 18:43

dd has just done this - went right off any solids for about 2 weeks. Now is back to gobbling everything she sees. Think it must have been teeth or a phase ....

BTW I freeze pureed/mashed mango and heat it in the microwave it's fine, great for mixing with yoghurt, porridge, rice pud etc, not so sure if it is chunks of mango, these may go soggy when defrosted/heated

gingernutlover sounds good - you don't cook the mango before freezing it do you?
