Las time I just did it when I was told, regardless of any real signs from DS...

This time I've been very interesting in baby led weaning, DD shows all the sings so we've started her on solids... but does it matter when they show the signs of readyness?

DD was sitting unaided, putting things in her mouth, staring hungrily at us at mealtimes and stealing food at 5 months old...

To me, no, it doesn't matter when they show readiness, b/c it's usually at or around 5-6 months.

Yes, yes, I know what WHO says. It's a recommendation. A guidline. I'm a parent. I'm in touch w/my child. The body doesn't lie.

When dd1 was a baby, the recommendation was 4 months. She wasn't ready. She was when she was about 5.5 months. She was putting things in her mouth, drooling watching people eat, etc.

Becky gave us the signs. She is 21 weeks and scoffing pureed pear and carrot and will try apple tomorrow like there is no tomorrow.

she has even started whinging for her solids at the time we have been giving her them (2pm) and is satisfied afterwards. She has only had 6 solid meals so far, but she is loving it.

She told me and its working..... go with what you think. Only you know your baby and whether they are ready.

Is your DD REALLY sitting unaided FA?! LUCKY you.... i wish Becky would! She's a lazy mare!

:) Thanks guys!

Yep she sits unaided, mainly because she is one of those stiff as a plank babies... she stands unaided too, leaning against the sofa... she's a strange un!

i started dd2 a few weeks ago when she was 19 weeks. she would eat baby rice and potato with no problems but was refusing anything with any more taste, so i just decided to stop the solids for a while longer. She's ... god what is she?.. can't work it out or remember Blush but she was born on 10th oct... DER anyway, she seems more ready now. I was going to wait until she was 6months but might give it another go this week. yesterday i gave her a thin bread crust to hold in her had and she chobbled and sucked at it like a good 'un. even cried when i took the remains of it off her. so i guess that's a good indicator. i'll try a steamed carrot stick tomorrow and see what happens.

Moomin she's 23 weeks - only know as my dd is also born 10th Oct and I had to work out if you had hit the magic 26 week mark!
