Clueless & stressed

Hi, I really need some advice on weaning. My daughter is 8 months 1 week & I am a first time mum. I really don't know what I am doing. First stage was good, no problems, now she doesn't seem to like anything I give her ( I have 4 meals I know she will like (2x chicken based, 1 lentil & cottage pie with sweet potato) + all fruit & deserts) she will not eat bought baby food.

I am getting stressed, anxious & annoyed with this & have no Idea how to proceed. Carry on offering her things she won't eat & new foods then feed her what she will eat? I feel like I am wasting SOOO much, especially as I am cooking meat & fish for her & I'm vegetarian.

I do always try to offer finger foods which go down well & i have given her meals that are just finger foods but she doesn't seem to eat much of it or again turns her nose up at it.

I really don't know what I am doing and am finding this whole weaning thing a nightmare.

All help & advice appreciated. Xx

Hi

Please try to worry less :)

She is only 8 months, milk should still be her main source of nutrition.

If she doesn't want to eat something it is probably because she is not hungry or doesn't need those particular nutrients at that time. Babies are good at regulating what they eat.

Unless she is having issues with weight gain I'd suggest calming down. Feed her what you're having, without the salt. If you want her to have meat then maybe cook a chicken breast, cut it up into portions she can pick up, give her some and freeze the rest for next time. Then she can have what you're having but with the option of meat too.

She will honestly eat what she requires. There's not a set portion size or diet that works for all babies.

My DD2 is 8 months old and still very much wants milk rather than 3 square meals a day. She has 2 meals and finger foods but point blankly refuses 3 meals at the moment and will let me know when she is ready for a 3rd meal.

As long as your DC is gaining weight nicely then try not to worry to much Smile
