DD is 9 and half months old and from day one of weaning she refuses to be spoonfed! BLW was the only option for us. We started off really well but now anything that is put infront of her she point blank refuses to eat it! Breakfast is the worst and there is absolute nothing that she will eat. Lunch is no better and dinner she may try something! I am sick and tired of all the mess and feel like she will NEVER eat! What do I do?

She is bf and seems like that is what keeps her going!!

Any advice please x

Yes just keep calm and relaxed and just keep offering her the food. If she refuses, just clear away when you've finished and don't offer any alternatives. Just try to remember food is for fun until you are one.

It'll change suddenly, when she makes the link between hunger and food. Can you cut back on milk feeds and always offer food when she's hungry gradually? At that age dd was on three milk feeds and three meals a day.

Other than that, I'd say make sure you eat with her but don't concentrate on what she's eating, just talk and eat normally. I also found dd ate more if I had a small bowl on her tray with a few bits of food and topped it up from a bowl on the table. She seemed over faced with a full meal's worth in front of her at once.

I agree with JJJ though, she's too young to worry about it. Milk should be what she's subsisting on. Btw, I also found having molars has made a huge difference but she understandably cut back on food when teething.

Hi Gina, ds is 10 mo and has only really started to get food in the last 2-3 weeks. I completely feel your pain! Also bf, also a big nope to spoon feeding except yoghurt and ice cream I thought I was going to go off my head on a thrice daily basis. Grin with large Sad component.

Him starting to eat has had shag all to do with anything I've done or not done, dunno if that's reassuring or not? He still doesn't eat loads but is on 3 meals and some snacks now and takes his brekkie off a spoon.

I'm afraid I got so dispirited that I cnba to cook for him but he likes pouches and will take more when it's squirted in than spoon but will take by spoon as long as there's plenty of toys on his tray too Hmm

He is getting on better with the finger foods too, thankfully. He also gets a v determined look on his face (mine!!!) and beetles straight over if I dare to try to eat anything...

Hope your dc 'clicks' soon!

2 of mine were the same, but when it clicked, that was it. Can't remember exactly when it was, but I can really remember being totally fed up with it when they were 9/10 months. So, no tips apart from to echo PP about staying relaxed, offer food and clear away at end of meal without alternatives. Lots of sympathy though, as it is an annoying stage!

Sorry gina hijacking a bit as my DS is 7 months and exactly the same.... he refuses to be spoon fed and if he fanices it sometimes tries the finger food on his high chair table that I put there 3 times a day and most of which ends up on the floor!!!

I am just staying relaxed about it ....the mess and waste is annoying but I figure it will click one day ( fingers crossed! ) I am yet to meet a child/adult that doesn't eat so am figuring it will evenually happen.

My mum also mentioned that I was exactly the same and didnt start eating properly until over 1 years old. And now I devour food! There is hope...! Alsohoping when he starts nursery in January he will watch other kids eating and follow suit if it hasnt happened by then at home...!

Hang on in there!
