Has anyone started introducing solids at 3 months? My baby is 15lbs 7oz and hungry all the time and waking every 3 hrs.

No, I wouldn't do this. Babies kidneys are not properly able to cope with food at that age, there is a reason for the 6 month date. Try asking your health visitor what she would recommend.

Surely waking every 3 hours at 3 months is normal? My DS does that at 9 months! Please don't start weaning at 3 months - if your baby is hungry he needs more milk, that's all.

Indith · 23/08/2012 12:54

Waking every 3 hours is normal. Completely and utterly normal. Far more babies still wake at this age than sleep through.

Babies go through regular growth spurts where they feed more often and wake more at night. Again this is completely normal. If you are bf then this is what keeps your supply up to date with what the baby needs.

Milk has all the nutrients and calories your baby needs. It doesn't matter how big he is. Milk, be it breast or formula is very high in calories. There is nothing, absolutely nothing that you could get down your baby at this age that would even begin to compare with the calories.

I Weaned My DD At14 Weeks She Was Drinking 15 Ounces (Breast Milk Expressed) Every 2 Hours. And I Have Never Looked Back (Now 2.5)

Most Health Visitors Say 4 - 6 Months.

Everybody I Know Weaned Before 6 Months

just1fornow · 23/08/2012 13:05

2.5 refers to her age

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 23/08/2012 13:06

I weaned at 6 months. DD eats anything and everything.

Really glad I waited.

Figgygal · 23/08/2012 18:09

My DS is on 98th centile was feeding every 2.5hrs until just before 20wks had a huge milk tummy and wouldn't stop i knew we wouldnt make 6 months however I held off as long as I could before weaning.

I wouldn't at 3 months u don't say whether u r bf or ff if ff have u tried hungry baby milk? My DS had terrible constipation on it so we stuck to 1st stage but it could help?

DairyNips · 23/08/2012 18:13

Waking every 3 hours is totally normal. I don't get why people expect babies to sleep through so early. It can take some of them 9 months or longer to work out the difference between day and night for a start. Babies aren't meant to sleep through early, their small tummies need filling regularly with milk.

I would leave it until baby can sit unaided and put food in their own mouth. These are signs to look for, not how often baby wakes.

My baby is 13 weeks and 15lb 12 oz yesterday at weigh in.

Feeds every 3 hours and I wouldn't DREAM of weaning at this age.

dont do it

Purplevi · 25/08/2012 01:54

Milk is by far the best food at this age most calorific and contains the necessary fortifications, you dont want to take space away from milk intheir tummies.
Guidelines are due to increasing body of knowledge about infant nutrition so yes they change. 4-6 months is earliest but 6 months is better then you can give most foods without worry. Weaning doesnt make babies sleep through, my 8.5 month old is still waking for milk feeds but he is healthy and growing and thriving so it must be the right thing to do.
Is your baby growing and thriving but needing lots of milk to do so? Thats whats important. Everyone I know waited until 6 months btw.
