DS gets grumpy while eating

My DS is 7 mths and I started weaning at 5 months. He's fine with breakfast most days and will have baby porridge and toast and then a little milk. Lunch and dinner can be tricky. He starts off fine and loves the first few mouthfuls then gets really grumpy and screams and won't open his mouth. I usually have to trick him to open up and eat it. If I do something like switch to giving him a little bread by hand halfway he will eat it but won't go back to eating it from the spoon. It's almost like he gets bored of the taste but is hungry.

I've resorted to giving him bread in between and desserts after but can't keep doing that. Any suggestions please?

Also, sometimes it's like he wants to eat something different for a bit that's why I give the bread or sometimes I pretend to walk away and come back with a different meal. He will have one spoon then realises

This is exactly the same as my DS, I could have written that. I am just trying not to worry- he's eating and it's getting better. At first he would accept nothing from a spoon so bought all of the Organix finger food range and worked from there. Now he eats bread, yoghurts, bananas and small amounts of puréed actual meals.

I'm hoping this means he won't get scurvy. My sister only ate weetabix for a year between 3&4yrs old, followed by a year of tinned macaroni cheese and then a year of chicken super noodles Hmm.

She's 5ft 8 and a healthy 22yr old now so I think my DSs diet is healthier than that!

Glad it's not just me!

How old is your DS and when did he start doing it? Mine loves food but seems to wants lots of different flavours rather than one meal

Hi, he's nearly 7 months old. He took puréed veggies with no problem, but when we moved onto puréed meals he just clamped his mouth shut. Tried blw and the principles of it seem to work. Today he finally was enthusiastic about a meal and managed to eat half a pot of baby pasta and sauce Grin. Tried a lot of spoon-play and we've been eating our dinner at the table at 5pm (too early!), to show him how nice it is to eat.

Feel like we've had a breakthrough. Maybe you could try the same? ?

Actually I do find he will eat if I eat at the same time.

How do you manage with BLW while you're out?
