11 month old. Weaning off breast milk on her own?

Hello

Just wondering what your 11 month olds eat or drink? My 11 month old has always been breast fed and we have never used bottles.

She happily eats 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks in between meals. We did baby led weaning.

She has naturally dropped her daytime breast feeds and will happily drink water from a beaker during the day.

My query is about moving from breast milk to cows milk. It seems my DD is starting to drop her morning milk feed and in not sure what to do.

She used to have a breast feed first thing in the morning and then last thing before bed. I will also feed her once during the night if she wakes. She normally wakes once but we have started to get the odd sleep through night! Yay!

But the last few mornings she has woken up in the mornings and just chatted to herself in her cot, and quite happily didn't demand a feed first thing. I wondered if this meant she didn't need the night feed so last night I sent my DH into her at 3am to settle her back to sleep. Didn't work and I ended up feeding her after 30 mins of him trying to settle her.

So this morning I gave her breakfast before her breast feed and she ate lots more cereal than she would have done normally. Is that the right thing to do?

I'm happy to keep feeding her and don't need to wean her but she seems to be doing it on her own and I'm concerned she might not drink enough milk.

I'm planning to move her onto cows milk in a beaker twice a day but obviously she is a little too young for that just yet.

Any advice? Or similar experiences?

Both of my ds's self weaned at 8 months, went off the breast and refused to try formula.

They were both very good eaters and ate more after weaning.

I got advice from a bf counsellor the first time and was told it was unlikely that they would self wean if they weren't getting enough nourishment from food, so that was reassuring Smile

llama it is very unusal for a baby under 12 months to self wean. The current advice for a baby under 12 months is to offer a bf an hour before offering solids. This is because the milk is more important than the solids for their growth and development. Once she is 12 months you can offer the bf after the solids.

If you do want to move over the cows milk once she has reached 12 months the recommendation for 12 to 24 months is 300ml of full fat cow's milk per day.

Thank you, I will go back to breast feeding her first thing in that case then.
