What's your meal/milk routine for your 9mo?

I got an email from Bounty today that said "your baby is probably having 3 meals a day now with milk straight after!". Umm no I'm not and I didn't know I was supposed to. How do people just know this stuff. So I think I need to drastically alter what I am doing. I just wondered what others did?

At the moment we are doing:
6.30 milk
7am breakfast (I felt this was too much but I didn't want to drop the milk as I'm obsessed with her getting 500ml+)
11am milk
12.30 lunch
3pm milk
6pm dinner
7pm milk

As you can see I am doing it all arse about face and need to make drastic changes I think! Helppppp.

I never did milk along with meals so our day went like this at that age (ds dropped his mid-morning milk at 9 months):
7am - milk
8am - breakfast
10.30am - snack and water
12pm - lunch
2.30pm - milk
5pm - dinner
7pm - milk

He was down to 2 milk feeds by 11 months which were the morning and bedtime ones. His intake was made up by milk in cereal, in foods, cheese, yoghurt, etc as these all count towards the daily total as well

Wifi - I'm doing exactly the same as you, and my little girl seems happy. If what you're doing works for you both, I'd be inclined to leave as is. I offer water with each meal and a breastfeed at the milk times.

Pah! What do they know? If it works for you.... We do:

6.30am: milk,
8am: breakfast,
9am: milk,
11.45: lunch (main meal of day for DD)
1pm: milk,
5pm: dinner (tea type items, always self fed)
6.30pm: milk.

This routine suits DD perfectly for now....!

DD not 9 months yet but one thing I have noticed is that every website has their say and their say seems to be different to the last. Do what's best for you and baby.

Gina1981 · 28/06/2012 16:17

I have to agree with lizzy. My DD hasnt read the bounty email and has her own plans. Remember one thing, nothing is set in stone and always trust your child. People obsses about intake but the bottom line is that babies never starve themselves and they always take what they need!! Dont be influenced by emails and books. It would be nice for each baby born holding their own manuals but the truth is each baby is different and do different things.

DS (9 months) has :

7.30am : milk (but only 60ml to keep him going til breakfast which is given by granny when we've gone to work)
9am : porridge (but less than the portion he's meant to have, only about 60ml of powder)
12 (ish) : lunch (including dessert of yoghurt)
4pm : about 120ml milk, sometimes the rest of the lunchtime yoghurt or a rice cake or fruit if he seems very hungry
6pm : tea (same quantity as lunch)
7.30pm : breastfeed
During the night : 1-3 breastfeeds to get him back to sleep. He doesn't drink much except when it's very hot

No way does he get 500ml of milk but mainly because he really isn't keen on formula and I'm back at work so breastfeeds are limited! He does eat a lot of yoghurt and cheese though.

We've never done milk with meals (except when starting weaning) as he loves his solids far more than his milk! He also prefers water to formula so water is fine with meals Smile

DD2 is 9 m.

She has milk.
Breakfast.
Milk & maybe a snack.
Lunch.
Milk & maybe a snack.
Supper.
Milk.

I do try to leave a gap of an hour between milk & meals though.

then milk between 1-4 times in the night...

Bartusmaeus · 28/06/2012 16:41

"then milk between 1-4 times in the night..."

Glad I'm not the only one! I've debated trying to night wean but he's so clingy atm and teething etc. etc. I feel mean not giving him the comfort he wants and I like the cuddles

RillaBlythe · 28/06/2012 16:45

Bart - yeah. It's always left out on those milk/solids charts! On bad nights I spend the next day thinking I should nightwean but during the night it's the easy way out! & actually last night she went down at 8pm & didn't wake/feed until 5am, & although I was full I wasn't engorged, so she can't be taking that much anyway... But I am too lazy & she is still so wee really didn't nightwean DD1 until 22m after all

Bartusmaeus · 28/06/2012 17:02

Phew you're making me feel much better rilla!

It's so much easier to feed him and have him go back to sleep quickly sometimes than make him cry because he's rooting and I'm refusing him and trying to rock him off to sleep!

Agree with the not being very full on the few occasions he sleeps longer than 3 hours so he can't be taking that much. And when I do sometimes think about stopping there's always a hot spell and I need to drink in the night so I'm sure he does too!
