Too much water with meals?

Dd is doing BLW and gets a beaker of water with eaxh mealtime. Theres about 4oz in the beaker and she has around 3oz per meal.

Is there a danger with this?

sounds fine

Such a grey area and no real advice is there, I've been wondering the same thing myself. DD went through a stage of having 3oz for a few days, now she's having around 1.5-2oz with each meal.

I've looked it up many times and the only advice there is that you should avoid giving water to babies before 6 months as it can cause water intoxication. It can still do this up until they are one so you should limit how much you give BUT they don't say how much is too much.

I think that my DD seems fine and if there was something wrong she would tell me so I'm sure what she is drinking is ok, I would say the same for your DD. My personal opinion is that it's best to offer food first with small sips of water during because I don't want her to fill up on water and get tummy ache or to be hungry later.

Think it's fine. FF babies should have water offered anyway.

I'd offer water throughout the day as well as at meals. From 6mo DD had a beaker out all day that she could get if she wanted.

lizzy where was the water intoxication advice from? Not heard that before.

OneLittleBabyTerror · 21/06/2012 16:54

You can drink too much water, but I doubt very much 3oz is too much.

I believe most who died from it are people on those weird water diets, trying to loose weight.

Oh yes, the wiki article does have a link to

www.stlouischildrens.org/articles/wellness/water-intoxication-in-infants

on water intoxication of infants. But tbh, DD didn't get drinking water till 10mo. But we did go to waterbabies and this doctor guy recommend against it Hmm

Sorry, should have clarified 3oz with each meal. Am reassured that she should be fine.

She actually seems to like drinking water....odd.

Onelittle - thanks for that. I'd heard of older people on weird water diets being affected like you say, but not a baby being given a reasonable amount.
