Gagging on EVERYTHING!

I started DS (5 and 1/2 months) on some purees a couple of weeks ago - carrot, butternut squash, sweet potato. I mixed them with milk to make them quite runny at first. He seemed to like them, and swallowed a fair amount. He then had a horrible cold for a week or so and just wasn't interested in food, so I didn't press it. Come to start giving it to him again and he just gags on EVERYTHING. I made really runny porridge this morning, and he gagged on that. He likes some finger food (mango, melon, banana), but just gums them a bit, and if anything get in his mouth, he gags.

I don't want to stress him out with eating, but don't know what to do? Do I keep offering it to him?

He's still quite young, why not leave it a week or two?
