Baby not drinking any milk

My 6.5mo DD is happily eating three meals a day and was EBF till she started solids.

I'd like to get her ready for my return to work by changing my daytime feeds to formula.

My problem is that she won't take milk from anything other than me! I've tried expressed milk, different types of formula, different types of bottles and cups. I stopped bfeeding her at all during the day for four days hoping that that might persuade her to take some milk but no joy.

She'll drink water from a tommy tippee free flow sippy cup, but not milk.

Everything I've read says that babies should get half their daily calories from milk until they are one.

Does anyone have any advice about how I can get her to take milk during the day?

Have you tried letting someone else give the milk instead of you? You might find that if she's further away from the original milk source she'll try it more readily.

My DD2 was the same, ate really well, drank water well from a cup, but only wanted milk from me. At about 8 months, she dropped he daytime milk feeds and only had a morning and bed time breast feed. I made sure her diet contained plenty of other dairy e.g cheese, milk used in cooking, yoghurt etc.

She started nursery full time when she was 10 months and only drank water during the day at nursery, with her meals, as well. She started to like drinking cows milk at home when she was 11.5 months, out of a sippy cup. Now she is a year old, she has cows milk at nursery with meals.

I am not sure when you are due to go back to work, but I have found that as my DD has changed so much over the last 6 months I have just adapted with her.

This is only my experience and someone more knowledgable may come along. It may be that, because she is my second, I just was not as worried about the guidance from books. I was obsessed by guidance with my first though!

Are you going back full time Mrs?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/06/2012 12:06

Oh, and when do you return to work?

MrsHende · 07/06/2012 12:39

Thanks Giraffe, cloud and Jilted.

Giraffe, yes, I've tried that - DH, DM, DMIL and a good friend have all tried to give her milk when I've gone out, all to no avail! (We've been trying to get her to take expressed milk from a bottle for months now!)

Cloud, thank you, that makes me feel better. I never thought about putting the milk into her food. I'll get some yoghurts and cheese!

Jilted, I don't go back to work till August but I really want to tackle this now, one less thing to stress about in the lead up to the return to work!

Can see why you want to sort it Mrs. If you have a look in the MN archives there are lots of threads on bottle refusal. You might get more posts if you post in Breast & Bottle section. Talking to a BFC might give you some more tips too, have you got the numbers of the helplines?
