So, I know sweet potato is actually a vegetable, but does that mean that you serve it with actual potato? Or other vegetables? Ds loves it, but I often serve just it plus whatever fish/meat etc he is having, but should I actually be serving something else too.....

I'd never serve it with potato - its starchy enough. We have it with protein (eg sausages) and other veggies

Yep what dibbler said.....Grin

Sweet potato & swede go well together, or SP & carrot, or SP & butternut squash.....bit orange though maybe add some broccoli!!

I do my mash with a mix of potato and sweet potato often. DH isn't a fan of normal potato mash. Agree with others it feels starchy. Potato is a root veg too. Actually banana feels starchy as well.

I had the same dilemma one day on beans actually. When do they go from a green veg to become a protein source. Especially with something like edamame beans. If you buy it fresh or frozen, it's green in colour and you cook them like broad beans. When dry, they are soy beans, and we all know that's tofu! A great source of veggie protein.

It just goes to show our food classification is too simplistic isn't it?
