My DD is 6 months and bf. After reading far to many books i am now confused.

I think i am going to start with breakfast as this is where i have the most time so i won't hurry her.

She only ever feeds off 1 boob, should i let her have her normal feed then try solids or maybe before ? and then offer water after ?

Any suggestions for first tastes was thinking of fruit and maybe skipping baby rice ? Does it have to be pureed or mashed ? It seems like all the books still make suggestions for when they are 4 months think this is why i feel a bit puzzled

Any help would be great

Start with something plain and just one thing. Baby rice, apple, pear. Pureed is best to start with.

I gave DS a tiny bit of milk, then some solids, then more milk. That way his mind was on food but he wasn't too full up.

Good Luck!

I didn't introduce baby rice to ds until after he had had pear, apple, peach, carrot, parsnip etc - and only then as a thickener etc. I didn't want ds to get too used to bland tastes!

start with pureed, move on to mashed after a few weeks. The nice thing about preparing your own is that you are in total control of how lumpy (or not) you make the food.

Starting weaning is the same process whatever age you start - don't worry about the age guidelines

miaou - no need at all to start with purees when you're starting at 6 months. What a faff !

chocohead is fine to begin with mash or even soft lumpy bits.

No I agree tiktok, I started at 21 weeks , forgot about that. Ds is now 6.5 months and happily eats lumps.

or even proper food, unmashed! Check out the baby led weaning threads - I cannot recommend BLW enough! Generally a shaky start with a bit of gagging, but that soon passes and before you know it you and DD will be sharing cheese on toast for lunch. Mind you, it's kind of messy....
