Baby Stopped Eating

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on weaning - surprise surprise since that's the forum I'm in. Anyway, DS is 6 months next week. I weaned from 4 months, started with Baby Rice, a few spoonfuls for a week, gradually got more etc followed all the rules. He loved it and took to it like a duck to water. Much happier with the food. So we moved on to veg/fruit, all home made ate everything - did the whole trying it 3 times before moving to something new all the way I was told to. Build it up to he was having lunch and dinner and a spot of baby rice for breakfast.

Then about 3 weeks ago he got a cold and was not eating anything milk or food. He's got over the cold has still got a slight cough, and 2 teeth after this and now will hardly eat a spoonful.

I know it's still early but I'm worried that he won't got back to it. They give jars at nursery which he was recently started due to my return to work and he has on some days ate well. He will eat breakfast 1 day then not to the next but lunch that day and no dinner.

What should I do? Start at the beginning again or move on. I also don't want to go down the route of only offering what I know he will eat. He has not had finger food he's had toast twice but again won't eat much.

I should say he's not upset in anyway and I actually think he is teething again with another tooth. I'm just want advice on what's the best thing to do and if anyone else experienced this.

Thanks
Andrea

No need to start at the beginning again but I would take him to the GP and ask them to check his throat and ears as infections can often stop them from eating, as can teething. Try a teething gel like Dentinox and ibruprofen too.

At this age it really doesn't matter if you don't get any solids into him though as long as he is getting the recommended amount of formula his will be fine. Just keep offering the food you usually give and if he eats it fine and don't stress if he doesn't Smile.

You're not alone....started weaning my daughter when she was 5.5months old. Was a dream eater for 6-8weeks, got up to 3 lovely big puree meals a day. A week ago, all of a sudden, she decided puree's are boring. Blows raspberries, refuses to open mouth....usual tricks!!

We've now moved onto finger foods & upped her milk, just to keep things going. She has eaten croissant today, had fish fingers & carrots yesterday with her older brother & sister. How much goes in, i've no idea - floor is very messy! BUt I remember my other 2 suddenly going off food for a while. Could be teething, most likely a phase. It'll pass, so don't worry. In the meantime, let your baby play with food / stay familiar & interested in it. he'll soon get hungry / have another growth spurt & pick back up with more regular meals.

Thank you all. Took him to the doc last night cos he now has a runny tummy. He thinks it's teeth. He says offer him everything and accept what he takes. He's still sleeping etc and is happy smiling away so he's not upset.

I will just keep trying.

If it is his teeth he might enjoy some sticks of cooled cucumber to chew on or a cold wet clean flannel sometimes helps too Smile.
