What is your 8mo eating these days?

Am doing a mix of BLW and purees but DS is quite hungry so he gets bits and pieces of my/DD's food and then usually 3-4 cubes worth of puree of some kind, at least, plus yogurt prob once a day.

I have no problem giving him stage 1 ellas and he has some of that every day, plus we have some mixed veggie homemade purees in the freezer, but I baulk at giving him the stage 2 stuff because the thought of pureed meat/fish just seems wrong and I can't even bring myself to taste them let alone feed them to him!

Just wonder if it's ok to only give him proper meat occasionally to gum/suck/gnaw on rather than trying to get it into him in the form of puree. And also is yr 8mo having pasta? I finally found some baby pasta last week and he chewed a little bit of it after I let it get soft in some soup (after cooking it) but he did also spit a fair bit out.

Absolutely give him meat. Strips of beef, chicken or pork, I'm sure he'll gnaw at it and give it a good go

My dd had everything from 7 months (BLW started at 6 months). She eats whatever we eat so that includes homemade chicken curry, Chinese beef stiffer, fajitas, Sunday dinners and of course her favourite chilli con carne! I was really surprised how she managed to negotiate meat with so few teeth!

Pasta - yes too. Mix it with a bit of pesto, fried mushrooms and garlic for a quick lunch.

Yes that's what he gets, strips of meat from whatever we have, I just wondered if it's enough meat - it's prob meat maybe 5 times a week, poss more?

So your DD fully chews and swallows baby pasta? I have given ds various pasta shapes but he has only ever been able to manage the baby stuff - it's french, it's tiny pasta numbers so really small bits.

You don't need 'baby pasta' - just give what you're eating! Most babies don't seem to eat substantial amounts of food until about 10mo anyway. Meat strips 5x a week is plenty.

thanks FP but as i've explained further up, he's never managed to eat regular pasta, and i've tried about 4 or 5 different shapes!

Maybe he simply doesn't much fancy pasta, if you're giving him lots of fruit and veg puree's and not much meat etc. then he's probably already recognised that he's got plenty of carbs and is sticking to the better carbs in the veg. Animal instinct is surprisingly good on identifying what foods to eat, and it's almost certainly the same in babies who have choice.

Minced beef/lamb whatever is almost certainly the easiest food for babies to eat large amounts of - DD was eating large bowlfuls of chili and shepherds pie and stuff by 8mo (no idea in cubes, as she just had food, but her bowl was often emptied)

At 8mo you're still mostly teaching them to eat, the nutrition is still coming from milk, so it doesn't really matter.

He is only just 8mo so still struggling to pick up small things and get them into his mouth. Anyway will keep plodding on, just interested to see how others are getting on.

He is quite good at anything you give him to tackle on his own ie. BLW / finger foods but he really doesn't like thick purees with potato/lentil - still struggling with grainy textures. He is gaining well, quite a chubby boy atm as he is not moving really, so I am not worried.
