Hi everybody. My DD is 6 months and we are doing the weaning at the moment. My concern is that she began to refuse milk (Formula Fed, Aptamil) for the last few weeks, having less than 500ml per day. I've been told by HV that this is normal, however, it is seems to me, that everithing is "normal" according to them. My DD began drinking a lot of water instead and on some days could drink up to 1 liter. I am thinking of changing to Follow on formula, not sure if it will make any difference and will appreciate any advice. Thanks

Could you perhaps offer her natural yoghurt instead to help with dairy intake? If you're weaning, she will be starting to get the relevant vitamins from more sources than just milk.
Water may just be more 'exciting' for her at the moment than milk as it's a new taste.

What we did at that age was to offer small child a choice of milk or water at a number of points during the day - as long as fluid is going in, and she is getting her dairy intake for calcium, then I would agree with the HV it's not a problem.

Follow-on milk is really just a marketing ploy - the only advantage to it is that they do special offers (reduced price, BOGOF etc.,) on follow-on that they are not allowed to do on standard formula. We switched for that reason, and then moved onto normal milk just after the one year mark.
