When did you wean, and is your little one a fussy eater now or not?

Just read there was a connection between when you wean and whether your child ends up a fussy eater or not. Am very sceptical.

So, tell me:

  1. Age when you weaned (weeks)
  2. Age now
  3. Fussy / average / good eater?

... and then I'll know.

all mine were weaned at around 4 months, and I have three that will eat anything, and one fussy eater.

  1. DS1 - weaned 16 weeks - terribly fussy for a long time, much better now (aged 6.5)
  1. DS3 - weaned 16 weeks - gannet, greedy, never been fussy

  2. DS3 - weaned at 24 weeks - somewhere in the middle

Make of that what you will!

DS weaned at 15 weeks. Now 3.5 years and generally a very good eater. He'll try anything but obviously has likes and dislikes.

dd1 weaned at 15 weeks and now 3 eats anything and everything. I think it also has a lot to do with what you wean them on...homemade baby is far better than jars as they get used to different textures whereas jars all tend to be the same texture

Started to wean at 5.5 months as Ds was big baby and needed extra in his diet.

He has never been a fussy eater (touch wood) and eats everything he has seen so far! He didnt even notice that his food had lumps in it one day!

Sure it will backfire one day tho.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 14/02/2006 16:00

Woops, he is now 13m.

lazycow · 15/02/2006 12:37

Started soids - Pretty much exactly 6 months old (wish I'd waited longer now)
Now 15 months

Was a very good eater after the first month(and still is with childminder). He is getting fussier with me but still pretty good.

Bugsy2 · 15/02/2006 12:45

weaned ds at 16 weeks, dd at 20 weeks
ds is now 6
dd is nearly 4
ds eats plenty, was very fussy for about 2 years but much better now
dd eats pretty much everything but microscopic quantities
Think it has more to do with personality than date of weaning.

Jasnem · 15/02/2006 13:01

two DDs weaned at 16 weeks.
Now 5&6.
Eat whatever they are given.(Most of the time!)

Bozza · 15/02/2006 13:03

DS:
1 17 weeks
2 5 on Monday
3 Currently devouring everything in sight but think that is making up ground from being ill a couple of week ago. So eats plenty of most foods offered but still has plenty of ribs on show. The only thing he genuinely doesn't like is spinach. When he is not going through a ravenous spell he will play games - "don't like that" before he knows what it is etc.

DD:
1 22 weeks
2 21 months today!
3 Not fussy although currently going through an awkward stage. Never had as big an appetite as DS. Likes most foods - although awkward about texture of certain fruits. Doesn't like sardines or hot cross buns although is back on baked beans now and does like spinach.

I would say that as a family DH is the fussiest (doesn't like carrots, any fish except battered cod/haddock and scampi, liver, lamb, tomatoes etc) but he was weaned by having a bottle with a big hole in the teat and bits of rusk in the milk at who knows what age. Then it's me who was breastfed until 4.5 months then got teeth but also had had solids well before then because my Mum had sore nipples and they had no formula. So who knows what they fed me! Then DD (exclusively breastfed until 5 months then mixed fed and solids introduced). Then DS breastfed until 3 months, then mixed fed, then solids introduced.

Neither DS or DD has ever had jar baby food.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Now I don't know how to draw a conclusion without making a graph or something
