I have started weaning my 7mo 6 weeks ago on puree food (smooth ones), she loves it. we tried giving her some rice cakes, bread...but she always gags on it.

I went to the baby clinic today and the hv asked me how it was going so I told her what I was doing and she said I need to start dd on lumpy food pretty much straight away as otherwise she will have eating problems later on.

Can I carry on giving her pureed food and maybe introduce a few finger food (fruits/rice cakes/toast) at the same time?

I don't feel confident enough to do blw...

yes you can give finger foods alongside purees and as she gets better with finger foods you can phase out the purees

I don't think you have to jump from purees to finger foods, why don't you try slightly lumpier purees. So blend half and mash half and mix together and then when she's used to that mash it but not too much. Also try things like mashed bananas, yogurt with grated apple in, cauliflower cheese mashed a bit, the inside of jacket potato just to give her a bit more texture. You can always put finger foods on her highchair tray and she can just explore them. My mum used to cut thick slices of bread and soak them in a very weak watery marmite mixture and then dry them out in the oven. We used to love them and I'm going to try them out on my DD soon, my mum said that it really helped us to get going on chunkier food.
