Projectile vomiting seconds after first mouthful

Hi - DS is just shy of 6 months and on advice of HV have tried weaning him.

He has had a few tastes of baby rice and was just meh about it.

Tonight I steam some butternut squash then blended it to a puree with some baby milk in the mixer. Let it cool and gave him a try.

He pretty much just got some on his mouth rather than in it, so if he took in more than a 5p size amount I would be surprised. He actually seemed to like the taste, grinned a bit and then........

whoooosh

proj vom everywhere - three big exorcist torrents.

Am now a bit worried. Could he be allergic or something?

DH thinks thats unlikely and either a) it prompted a gag reflex or b) he just isnt ready and his body did some sort of auto reject

Has this happened to anyone or does anyone have any advice?

Many thanks

Probably gag reflex. DD1 could vomit at the drop of a hat and still does at nearly 6. DD2 at 15 months in comparison has been a delight to wean and eats most things - or at least tries to and hasn't puked once.

If he's not that fussed yet I'd wait a week or two.

Have you thought about BLW? The thought of cold mashed squash with milk makes me feel a little queazy too... give him a piece of cooked squash whilst he sits in the high chair and let him get on with it in peace whilst you enjoy a cuppa :)
