Portion sizes

I always struggled with portion sizes with DS1, and still do now at 2.11!

DS2 is six months and just started weaning, and again i'm not sure if he is having too much or too little. For example, there is no way he'd eat a jar of food, let alone half a jar and I dont know how for lunch and dinner, i'm meant to give him a 'main' and a 'dessert' because he seems to get frustrated after maybe 15/20 spoonfuls

I'm scared to do BLW because I dont see how he'd get enough food but maybe my idea of portions is warped
So, what is the correct portion that he should be having now and also as he gets older?

I always went by, if the're hungry they'll be mithering. I fed them until they stopped wantng any more and then stopped.

With BLW you offer until they've had enough, and it doesn't look like they've had much. Until 12mo the main food source is milk anyway, food is supplementary to that.

DS is being breastfed about 4 times in the daytime, so from what you are saying, solids are supplementary to this?

So if he only has a few spoonfuls its okay?

Exactly that. Milk is the main food until 12mo, and getting that into him is more important than anything else :)

You can take the idea of letting your LO decides how much to eat, without going all exclusive self feeding (aka BLW). Relax about how much they want, be it 1 or 50 apponfuls. Weaning is about letting them get used to the texture and taste of adult food. Milk is the main food source until they slowly establish on solids (around 1yo).

Thank you, it really makes me feel better that what i'm doing is okay

I think the fact that jars are the size they are makes me think that that's how much they 'should' be eating
