Picnic with a BLW 1yo

With the nice weather coming up in the weekend, we are planning for a picnic on Sunday. DD can eat anything so that's not a worry.

But how should I serve the food to her? She's only ever eaten in a highchair. I've always laid out the food on her tray. If I give her food on a plate, she tips everything out onto the floor. I've got a bumbo with a tray, so maybe I could try that? Or do you all just give food on the picnic mat?

Bit at a time on a picnic mat or take the bumbo if you can carry it. I do remember lots of picnics with groups of one year olds that involved much crawling over the mat and food. Much easier once they're 2 and possessive about their food! Have fun.

I just put the food on the mat, and DD would walk over the mat and grab the stuff she wanted, perhaps standing on a sausage roll or two, wander off a bit, be dragged back and then pick up one of the squashed sausage rolls.

Same as she does now at 2yo.

I didn't think there was any other way to do a picnic Grin

How about giving her the food on the mat in a tub, like an empty marg tub? If she tilts a plate the food is likely to tip off so she may be able to use a tub more easily. You could always take the bumbo and tray just in case.

Thanks ladies. I now have visions of her crawling all over the food! I think I'll bring both her splash mat (as it's easier to wipe clean than our picnic mat) and the bumbo (if we can manage). She might be too excited and will try to escape the bumbo!

Flisspaps, mine now guards hers like a lion or something, shrieking about how she WON'T share it!
