open cup or lidded cup?

DS will slurp from an open cup quite happily and seems to prefer this to lidded cup with hard spout. Do we carry on persevering with lidded cup with the aim being he will be able to tip it himself to drink earlier (he's 10 months), or don't bother with the lid any more and just encourage the open cup as that's where we want to be eventually (even though it'll mean us tipping the cup for him for longer)?

No answers from me I'm afraid, my wee girls the same. She's almost 8 months and bf. Tried giving her water in a cup with a spout a few times and all the does is bang it off the floor. Take the lid off and she'll happily lap away at it if I hold it for her. It's ok just now as I'm on ml and have the time to do this but going back to work in a couple of months and grandparents will be looking after her so she'll need to be able to drink when I'm not there. Would love to know what others suggest.

Open cup for meals - let them get on with it and they'll get the hang faster. DS got it by 9 months (had to put only a small amount of water in).

We use lidded beakers with straws for when we're out on the go.
