What do you give your toddler for lunch?

I seem to have got stuck in a bit of a rut with lunchtimes for DD, at the moment she either gets fish finger or breaded chicken then yoghurt and fruit or just a selection of snacky foods like breadsticks with cheesy dip, raisins, rice cakes etc. Occasionally I make soup but this can be a bit hit and miss as to whether she eats it. She is 15 months, what do you give your similar aged child at lunchtimes?

20mo ds loves crumpets, or a selection of
Fruit
Scrambled egg or omlette
raisins
Use ups from night before
marmite sandwich
crackers and cheese
tomatoes
toast
yogurt
pancakes
Breadsticks
small salad bits and ham (not so popular)

Hope this helps

I'm going to jump on this thread because I'm stuck in a bit of a rut too.

Boiled eggs, toast, tomato, cucumber, carrots to dip in hummus is a favourite of my 17mo DD.

Soup is a big hit here, and great as I can vary the veg without DD thinking it's new (and therefore strange). Try dunking bread in the soup and letting your DC eat it that way. My DD started that way a long time before she was happy using her spoon.

Baked potatoes with beans and cheese or tuna mayo. I often scoop the potato out, mix with Philly or Roule and spring onions, restuff the potato, sprinkle with cheddar and then grill until bubbling. She loves that. A half baked spud is plenty for DD.

lemniscate · 11/03/2012 20:20

I meant half of a spud, not one that was only half cooked Grin

Ds (21 months) loves cheese on toast, cold sausages, garlic bread, crumpets, pancakes and ALWAYS my sandwich Grin

I find lunch is a PITA! So much harder than tea. But here are some that work.

Eggy bread is a big hit with my DD.

Cous cous

Hummus

Corn on cob

Bagels

Scotch pancakes with various fillings

AllShiney · 11/03/2012 20:45

All of the above and some regulars in ours are:

Pesto pasta and peas

English muffin pizzas

Toasted pitta fingers with hummus

Pasta with Philly

Homemade smoothie he likes them thick with a spoon

Wraps with peanut butter and superjam

Pizza wraps

He loves kidney beans so I make a pasta salad or couscous with them added.

We tend to get stuck with rolls and sandwiches for a few days at a time and then remember other options.

AllShiney · 11/03/2012 20:47

Oh forgot his current fave:

Falafel with humus and rice cakes.

slowburner · 11/03/2012 20:59

DD is dairy and soya free. Grrr.

So.

Eggy bread.
Soup with bread in it, way easier to pick up
Fish fingers.
Occasionally frankfurters if I am eating them
Leftovers,
Pasta and sauce
Cous cous and sauce
Low sugar/salt beans on toast or with fish fingers or eggy bread

Lots of fruit too except banana

Dinner is usually what we had the night before reheated but DD always eats a big breakfast, huge lunch and sparrow dinner.

Timeoutofmind · 11/03/2012 21:45

My 14mo DD will have a sandwich with various fillings such as tuna, mackerel, ham, cheese or cheese spread.
Or
omelette with veg
scrambled egg on toast
scrambled egg & beans
mackerel & cheese spread on a rice cake with salad
Jacket potato with cheese & beans or tuna & salad
Cheese on toast
(Just realised there is a bit of a cheese theme)

Usually followed by a yoghurt or piece of fruit.

Think I will have a go at making some soup..
