Reason for asking is HV says water between feeds as DS might be thirsty but he point blank refuses Sad

DS refused water to start with too, but I persisted and it's now the only thing he drinks at 17months. I offered him OJ the other day and he refused.

Keep at it, if he's thirsty he'll drink.

Oh, and I tried various cups, he would only drink it from a Nuby cup to start with.

18 weeks. But HV advised a few spoons of easy on tum weaning as he has reflux. Sad

I didnt offer water until I started solids and even then they only took a couple of sips at a time. I'd stick with offering water - he will eventually take it if he is thirsty. We used the tommee tippee first cup for water

ImpYCelyn · 05/03/2012 16:55

Is he FF or BF?

I didn't think any liquid other than milk was needed except for FF babies in very hot weather.

Are you reducing his milk intake because of the food? It would be better to keep that the same and just add a little bit of food if you have to. Any food you give him at this stage will have far fewer calories than milk does. So if you keep the milk up I don't think you need to worry about water.

Flisspaps · 05/03/2012 16:56

I'd have a cup of water available all the time, and just offer it throughout the day. If and when he's thirsty, he'll drink it :)

LiamsMummyJaz · 05/03/2012 17:00

Thank you for your replies. I'm just worried he's going thirsty.
No I'm not reducing his milk feeds. I'm just mushing his rusk up with a bit of his milk.
He does enjoy in though Smile

Rusk isn't the best food to start with. It is very sugary and most contain gluten which should be avoided until 6 months. Simple fruits and veg or baby rice would be a better option.

LiamsMummyJaz · 05/03/2012 17:13

He rufuses baby rice and he gets an upset tummy with veg and fruit purée Sad

Maybe he isn't ready for solids yet then.

LiamsMummyJaz · 05/03/2012 18:11

Yes he is. He eats everything else. I've just tried him with baby rice and he had eaten a whole 10 spoons Smile result!! Lol
