Is my 7 mo eating too much

Started BLW a month ago and am concerned that I'm feeding dd too much but she seems constantly hungry. This is what a typical day looks like:

4 am - Quick BF
7 am - Bottle (7 scoops)
9am - Breakfast - e.g one or two tablespoons porridge + a bit of cooked apple
Nap
11am - Bottle (7 scoops)
12.30 - lunch - e.g a few toast and carrot fingers
Nap
3pm - Bottle (7 scoops)
5.30 - tea e.g. brocoli florets and a few omellete fingers
7pm - Bottle (7 scoops)
Bed
10pm - Bottle (7 scoops)
Bed
1pm - BF
Bed

She wakes up at 10, 1 and 4 and I've tried giving her water instead of milk but she'll cry again until she's had some milk (either bf or bottle).

I know it's hard to say how much is going in with BLW but some definately is as her nappies are a treat.

She's like a little ball.

Will be watching this. Mine actually eats more than yours... I call her The Woodchipper. Though she probably has one feed after 6.30- at 4am this morning, for example. Ouch.

Anyway, my daughter is expected to be very tall, so I have been assuming/hoping it's just that she needs the calories.

(Aren't those nappies fun?)

nutterbutsquash · 27/02/2012 14:12

Mine is expected to be very small. Currently on 9th centile but brother (now 3.5) is on 0.4 so now wondering if the surplus is pure greediness!

no, it sounds fine. she's getting rather a lot milk though.

Finallygotaroundtoit · 27/02/2012 14:18

No not too much - she's having 7- 8 milk feeds plus a bit of low calorie veg + some carbs. Sounds oK to me.

MsF1t · 27/02/2012 14:48

Is she crawling yet, or otherwise quite active?

nutterbutsquash · 27/02/2012 14:59

Not crawling or rolling over but quite wriggly and waves her arms about etc.

Not too much food but seems like an awful lot of milk...

I can't remember how much she was having 2months ago but my 9mo has:

7am- 1 weetabix with whole milk, half a banana, drink of water

9.30 am- 8oz formula

NAP

12pm- (example) half a pitta spread with houmous and grated carrot, 2 pieces of cooked chicken, half a clementine, drink of water

NAP

3pm small cup of milk and a baby fruit/cereal bar, the rest of the tangerine

5pm small portion of whatever we are having followed by a big-ish yoghurt (rachels kids one- much bigger than normal kids ones), drink of water

7pm 8oz formula

MamaGeekChic · 27/02/2012 15:05

just realised my clementine morphed into a tangerine during that post... ooops! ps. DD is quite active, crawling, cruising on furniture etc so prob needs more food

MsF1t · 27/02/2012 15:08

No time to write much, but it does sound fine. Mine has maybe 4-6 bottles made with 8 scoops per day, breastfeeds (though sadly less and less) as well as however much solid food she can/wants to manage.

She is wriggly too, and just started creeping. I was wondering if there was perhaps a link between wrigglyness and hunger as that was another factor I thought of. Other babies seem very docile in comparison to her!

scriptbunny · 27/02/2012 18:45

Mine has slightly more food and a little less milk. He's like a little lard-ball and by far the heaviest thing I've ever lifted on a regular basis. I'm telling myself they lay down calories prior to crawling. He's wriggling and rolling so clearly game to move but doesn't quite have the skills/muscles. I'd say your LO sounds fine. If she starts to eat more you may find she eases off the milk. That's what mine did.

sounds fine to me, lol at the woodchipper.

TamaraNicolaou · 28/02/2012 18:50

sounds about right to me, my DS who is now 7.5months old is now eating 3 hearty meals a day plus bf each meal, just before bedtime, he wakes every 3 hours to be fed at night and then it starts again.... He is incredibly active and growing fast LOL... I am sure the milk feeds will lessen in time.... (she says with hope LOL)...

MrsSawyer · 08/03/2012 09:54

mine is nearly 6.5 months and is having
7am - bottle 7oz
9am - 5 tbsp porridge
12pm - eqv to 1 baby jar of lunch, chicken n veg casserole etc
2.30pm - bottle 4oz ish
5pm - as lunch + yogurt
6.45pm - 5 tbsp porridge
7.45pm - bottle 7oz

too much? hes a big guy n i worry about him getting too big, he was 20lb 9oz at exactly 6 months, but it wont be that long before hes crawling so im hoping hes storing calories! hes ds2 so i should know better but ds1 was hideous to wean so to have one that wants to eat, its very different.

mookickkick · 11/03/2012 10:46

nutterbutsquash my 7mo dd is almost exactly like yours (except all BF, won't take bottle) in terms of feeding, though she's getting mostly purees. i am hoping she will take more food and less milk in time, but it's not really happening. some days she won't eat, just plays with her food. then again, the nappies are really interesting. guess we just have to be patient. perhaps as others have posted, when they start crawling they will eat more!

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 12/03/2012 10:10

Sounds right to me.

Babies and toddlers self regulate what they need to eat. They do until they're about five when they learn to snack between meals and learn adult eating habits.

I have a little meatball and he eats for England. He's eight months now and has always been on the 99.9 th per centile.

Doesn't bother me one bit.

At the weaning age, food and new tastes is fun and a new experience for them. And at this age most if their nutrients still come from milk.

A baby won't eat or drink unless it needs to. You couldn't force a baby to eat a meal or drink a bottle if it wasn't thirsty or hungry.

Don't worry about it. More is better than less at this age in my opinion Grin
