hi, im looking for advice for a friend. shes on her own, doesnt have any family or friends nearby really, apart from me, and shes panicking a bit about her lo whos 7-8 mths

she started on 'solid' food about 2 mths ago, and her ds has a very remarkable gag reflex. everytime she gives him a bit of rice, apple (mushed) or anything, he totaly gags, if she puts a teeny bit on his tongue for a taster he promptly vomits.

shes getting really worried now, he seems very hungry and takes a lot of milk

hes very healthy looking, apart from teething and diahorrea

any advice you think i could give her? please?

try him with finger foods. bits of cooked vegetables (carrot sticks, broccoli etc), toast, those heinz biscotti biscuits...

i think children are less likely to gag when they are in control of what goes in their mouht,

i think she would be worried about doing that, but ill suggest it

shell try anything! thanks

i read on here the other day (ahh the power of mumsnet!) that food on a spoon is pushed towards the back of the throat too soon, so more likely to cause the gag reflex.

he may also not like the texture of the mushy food.

i was giving ds rusks at 5 months and he was fine! just used to suck everything to pieces

thanks starlover, ill suggest the rusks. never thought of that myself.

shes so worried shes taking her ds to the dr tomorrow
