My DS seems to survive on so little food, this is what he has in a normal day:
8am - baby cereal with milk
11am - small jar of fruit puree with water to drink
2pm - BF (hates formula and bottles)
5pm - BF
6pm - small jar vegetable puree (sometimes with a bit of bread/cheese/couscous)with water to drink
8pm - BF
(plus BF through the night - he wakes about 5 times a night Sad)

Please let me know what your babies eat, i'm worried he's always hungry and hence the waking throughout the night....

My ds eats like a horse but below is an average day:

7am - 7oz f milk
8am - 1 wheatabix with yogurt
11am - large bowl of puree veg and chicken or fish and a fruit puree pudding
12 pm - 5 ish oz f milk
2.30 pm f milk between 5 or 7 oz
3.30 pm puree veg mix and finger food
5 pm - 3 or 4 rice crackers
7 pm - 7 oz f milk

No milk during the night but he stil wakes 3 or more times for a dummy or to check I will come. Speak to dr or hv re waking for milk as long as his weights ok I'm sure he just has a small appetite and is doing fine. My point is I could feed my ds more and he would stil wake mayb ur ds just expects bf during the night so is waking for it? Hope this helps sleep deprevation is rubbish!

curlykate99 · 28/01/2012 18:34

6am BF
7am porridge or cereal, fruit, sometimes half slice of toast
10am BF
1130am lunch eg half omelette or half pitta bread with tuna sweetcorn, plus some sort of fruit/veg and maybe a chunk of cheese
2pm BF
430pm tea eg pasta (maybe 6-8 spirals) or last night's leftovers, some sort of fruit/veg, plus yoghurt or fromage frais
6pm BF
Nighttime - about 100 BFs (seems like it anyway)

So I guess mine seems to eat a lot more but still wakes a lot during the night! I'm thinking about changing one of his daytime BFs for a snack now as well.

OneLittleBabyGirl · 28/01/2012 18:36

My DD just turned 10mo last week. Today went like this

6am bf
8am 7 shredded wheats, handful of cornflakes, toast soldier with peanut butter, a wedge of custard tart (coz mummy had one Grin)
11.30 bf
12.30 chicken and apricot casserole. About 1/4 thigh fillet, 1/2 dried apricot, 6-7 roasted parsnip, couscous, rice cake
4.30 bf
5.30 cheese and spinach mini muffin, a breadstick, 1/3 banana
6.30 bf

She has a dream feed at 10 and usually wakes once at around 2 for another bf.

OneLittleBabyGirl · 28/01/2012 18:41

dappleton I notice your LO seems to not be eating much filling food? Like protein and complex cabohydrate? Fruit is quite calorie light and what we adult eat when on a diet! Does he eat bread, potatoes, eggs, cheese or meat?

OneLittleBabyGirl · 28/01/2012 18:48

Just to add at nursery DD has breakfast of cereal (same as at home). A cooked lunch of standard nursery fare like cottage pie, then a snack of fruit at 2.30 and then a tea of either sandwich, soup or something cooked. So they don't feed a 6mo just fruit for lunch and tea either. (Everyone in the baby room has the same food).

Skodafabulous · 29/01/2012 10:43

9 month typical day;
8.30 bowl porridge with banana & raspberries
10.30 6oz formula
12.30 slice granary bread with butter & Philadelphia, petit filous
1.30-3 sleep
3.30 6oz formula
6 1 chicken mini fillet, broccoli, chopped up chip(!) , yoghurt with fresh figs
7.45 6oz formula

Sleeps all night 8-8,on 75 th centile for weight,4 teeth, can't crawl yet!Got 2 DCs, both had similar sleep at this age but DC2 eats more and has a bigger appetite than DC1 did.Because I've got 2 , DC2 doesn't have special baby foods, both eat the same type of thing, I watch the salt etc though.Looking at yours maybe add in some more protein & carbs in your meals.Sleep seems quite disrupted and you must be tired!Everyone has own views on bf but as soon as I stopped with both at 7m, sleep got much better..but you may get the same effect by increasing calorie value of your meals..

hippy3 · 29/01/2012 19:39

I have twins and they are both fairly good eaters, here is an example of what one of them ate today..

7.00 7oz formula.
8.00 weetabix then some fruit
9-10.30 nap
10.30 snack/ Bannana/ rice cake whatever is close to hand.(usually fruit)
12.20 lunch. Today was salmon, potatoe, and vegetables then chopped up pineapple and kiwi after.
2.30 7 oz bottle, and some more finger food like a organix biscuit (not everyday!)
2.45-3.45 nap
5.00 tonight he had an omlette with cheese. then youghart
6.30 7 oz bottle,
and water throughout the day.

Although the last couple of nights he has been dropping the last bottle, so am going to chat to my HV about it...he still sleeps thru so am figuring he is having enough food in the day? just worried he should be having more milk?

also they go thru different stages if they are teething or have a cold coming or something they tend to eat less....

Your baby may just have a little tummy? just perservere. They say little and often is better....so maybe try to feed little healthy nibbles throughout the day as well as the lunch dinner thing....xxx good luck. Smile

JKSLtd · 29/01/2012 19:45

Agree with others about upping calories during the day. At the moment he is getting enough calories overall with the extra BFs at night I should think.

DD is 9mo old, she has approx 6 BFs a day (none at night) and eats whatever we're eating for her 3 meals.
Lots of bread-products, cheese, ham, fruit & veg, roast chicken & potatoes (today), anything really. We offer it to her and she either tries it/eats it or chucks it on the floor Grin.

cheekyginger · 30/01/2012 10:59

Hi dappleton,

My 9mo's appetite really increased at about 8.5months...Sounds like it might be worth trying your wee one with more carbs and protein.

My LO's current day;

7.15am 8oz bottle
8.15 breaky: ready break or 1.5 weetabix, and a bit of brown toast to eat/play with
sleeps 10-12
12 lunch: homemade humous and a toasted bagel, some fruit and or yoghurt
2.30 6oz bottle
4.30 dinner: bolognese some pasta spirals, chkn apple and swt potato, or stew. (any meats can be gently blitzed in food processor so its easier for them to chew. Stew if cooked long enough can just be mashed with a fork)
6.45 8oz bottle (doesnt always finish this)

Sleeps from 7 till 7 most nights.

clarabella18 · 30/01/2012 13:45

Agree with previous comments re filling food. Try upping the protein and cards during the day. Have you offered finger foods. Things like toast or baked potato cut into wedges are nice and easy.

My LO is 8 1/2 months we are doing a mix of BLW and spoon feeding although the spoon feed is usually just breakfast as he doesn't have the patience to feed himself! An average day for us is:

7- porridge
9- 7oz bottle
11:30- 1 egg cheese omelette or cheese sandwich. Clementine or banana.
3:30- 4oz bottle
5:30- pasta Tom sauce/ chicken pots veg (whatever were having usually) yogurt
8-9 oz bottle

He's on the 98th centile and usually sleeps 8:30-7:00 with no feeds during the night.

sloathy · 31/01/2012 16:12

Hello

I have a 9mo. We are also doing a mix of spoon feeding and finger food. Yesterday he had:

6.30am - 9oz bottle
8.30am - porridge with stewed plums and apple (one packet of oatsosimple made with full fat milk)
10ish - snack (babybel, breastick, couple of segments of satusma)

Middayish - scrambled egg (1 egg) with 1/2 slice wholemeal toast, chopped tomatoes and ham, cucumber sticks, fromage frais

3ish - snack (small gingerbread man! - Organix)

4.45ish - lentil and veg stew with baked cod, greek yoghurt with stewed apple. (or leftovers from our meal the night before if it's suitable).

6.45ish - 9oz bottle before bed at 7pm.

He doesn't have any feeds during the night but is waking up a lot at the moment because he's learnt to pull up to standing and keeps doing this in his cot and then shouting until mummy or daddy go in and give him due praise :)
Water throughout the day. He's on 75th centile.

Reading that back it sounds a lot but he's very active crawling and cruising etc so I guess he needs the energy!

Maisieskates · 01/02/2012 22:14

DD is 10mths next week and seems to eat a lot. Yesterday was:

7.30 5oz bottle
8.30 1 weetabix with 2oz milk, whole banana
11.45 3 large cubes bolognaise, 25g pasta plus peas, broccoli and carrots
2.30 5oz bottle
5.00 slice of bread and Philadelphia plus slice of bread and hummus, yoghurt
6.30 7oz bottle

She's on the 75th percentile and just about standing on her own so i guess she needs all that energy. She has water which each meal but nothing during the night.

CinderellaSweepsUp · 03/02/2012 00:18

Have you tried him on any finger foods, toast with some kind of topping they can lick off is a good starter, might get him into the idea of eating more if he can explore it a bit?

My ds seems to eat quite a lot during the day, but still wakes a lot in the night and would take a bf every time if DH didn't step in occasionally!

He has upped his intake the last 4 weeks since starting to crawl, he is 9 months 1 week, before crawling he could miss meals and be quite happy with milk, there has only been a definite shift in the last month towards solids.

Today, fairly typical:

6.30 BF
7.30 Large bowl of porridge (same oats we have) with fruit puree
9.30 BF
11.00 BF
12.00 Half a bagel with cream cheese or avocado, half a nectarine
1.30 BF
3.30 1/3 banana or cucumber, tomato and breadsticks
5.00 bolognese with veggies and rice, fromage frais, apple to gnaw on
6.30 BF

StiffyByng · 03/02/2012 00:30

My daughter is 8.5 months and we do BLW. She eats like a trooper and I worry in fact that she basically relies on food already, with just light BM snacks.

Today was:

6am breastfeed
7am: fruit toast, pancake, satsuma
10.30am: breastfeed
11am: babybel
1pm: fish fingers, carrots, peas, couple of chips, bit of my omelette, Organix biscuits
3pm: satsuma
3.30pm: breastfeed
6.30pm: penne pasta, bolognese sauce, chicken with breadcrumbs, apple
7.30pm: breastfeed and formula (usually only drinks about 3oz)

Then has one more breastfeed in the night.

dappleton · 03/02/2012 09:34

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to all your responses, short staffed at work so life is a bit chaotic!

It's been really nice to read what all your babies are eating and i've changed a few things since.

DS now has bread/toast to chew on every morning before having his porridge/cereal. He's started to have a bit of rice and veg or egg at lunch and less fruit (he won't eat both) but at least he's getting more carbs. He gets a rusk or oat biscuit in the afternoon. In the evening, after having his puree, he gets fingers foods of whatever DH & I are eating or bread and cheese spread if whatever we're eating is unsuitable. He tried some roast potato yesterday with some tomato & cucumber salad - dropped most of it on the floor however but at least it's there if he wants it!

I think we have a long way to go to catch up with what some of your babies are eating but despite the fact he doesn't stay still for a second he seems to have a small appetite.

He's waking up a bit less I think, perhaps 3 times a night rather than 5+ so it's a bit of an improvement. I think a lot of the waking is just because he knows i'll BF to get him back to sleep - it's just becoming a habit.

Thanks everyone!
