Am feeling very proud of dd, she is 5 months and has been showing all weaning signs and I had been putting off solids for as long as poss - HV has suggested starting a few times now. Finally gave in and she has just gobbled a bowl of baby rice with a big smile on her face but IU am not sure what to do next. She had 1 little spoon of rice mixed with formula from her feed, made about 8 spoons when mixed and she had the lot with a few dribbles of course! She had her normal milk feed too but left 1oz I am guessing this is because the rice had filled her up so I am not worried. But unsure as to what to do next? I fed her the rice at 8.15am as this seems most sensible as I am always in at this time, what do I do next?

i'ld keep her on the same amount of baby rice this week, then introduce a fruit or veg puree next week.

thanks -I will carry on with the baby rice tomorrow and the weekend and maybe try fruit and veg monday or tuesday then

I have purees in freezer ready at I figured it would happen soon I have apple, carrot, swede, brocolli, mashed potato, pear and apricot, and peas - what would be best to start with? and am I right in thinking i should stay on the same food for a few days rather than chopping and changing

so is it okay that I did it at breakfast - have realsied that most people do it at lunch to begin with? I just couldn't face doing it at todddler group quite yet! Or music group come to think of it!

I wouldn't worry about what time you give it. Just that if you give it at night, and something new disagrees with her, then you might all have a rather interrupted night's sleep! I would start with apple or carrot. I was told to introduce a new food every 3/4 days.

Great - sounds like a plan!

thanks ever so much for the advice, I don't want to overload her as I had hoped to wait til 6 months

they say it is best to start new foods either at breakfast or lunchtime so that if there is any bad reaction it won't happen unseen when they are tucked away in the cot!
btw you sound incredibly organised with a freezer full of purees already - much better than me!
