DD is now 24 weeks and we have started introducing a few foods. So far, just baby rice and veggies. How soon is it ok to start giving wheat, dairy, meat etc? There seems to be so much conflicting advice out there but she was desperate to get her hands on my cheese on toast last night (that's my girl!) and seems to be getting quite hungry. She is a fairly robust little thing, but I don't want to give her things she's not ready for. Help!

Are there any allergies in your family? I know it's only anecdotal but my DD started on cheese, dairy, wheat (garlic bread!) and meat very early in weaning, but we did BLW and have no allergies so she just started grabbing food of our plates when she was ready.

Perhaps you could try giving a little and seeing if there is a bad reaction?

None at all. Might give her a little bit of pasta and see how she goes!

Charltonangel Have you looked into your NHS birth to 5 book? All the current guidelines are there. Don't just read random pages off the web, or follow food manufacturers advice.

BTW you are supposed to hold off all the known allergens till 26 weeks (6mo). But you are very close anyway.

The NHS page on weaning can be found here and here.

it's advised against giving wheat and dairy before 6months as baby might have a reaction such as intolerance. I would wait until she's closet to 6mo. have you tried any of the annabel Karmel recipes I found these very helpful in the first stages of weaning.
