7 month old - how much should they be eating?

Hi

You'd think I should know this as it's DD2 but just starting to wonder how much my nearly 7 month old DD should be eating. I started weaning her at 6 mo and unlike her big sis she's taken to it all really well & seems to love everything I give her (massively different experience to DD1).

At the mo she has 4 bottles (7oz each), first thing, mid-morning, mid-afternoon and evening. She also then has 3 small meals. Porridge for brekkie, veg and fruit for lunch and the same again for tea. I think am worrying too much as really am glad that she seems to enjoy food and want to eat it.

Just wanted a few comparisons with others.

She does seem to be pooing a heck of a lot at the mo! Am reluctant to decrease her milk just yet as feel she is too young to go without it but at times I think she doesn't seem bothered about the mid-morning/afternoon bottle.

Kids are so different at this age - my DS sounds like your DD1 as he ate virtually nothing at this age except a few breadsticks or similar. Others I know were on three pureed meals a day.

Personally, I think the balance of food and milk is tricky - but mainly you can be led by your LO, especially when they eat this well!

My LO sounds exactly the same OP she has 4 6oz bottles, same times and three meals a day, last week was the first week I introduced some fish or chicken to the veg at lunch and then fruit at tea. She seems to really enjoy this - oh and she's 7 months next week.

How muchdoyou give per meal? My dd is nearly 7mo and she has 3 icecubes plus a small amount of dessert and a bit of water at 5pm but then her bedtime bottle she will prob only take around 4-5oz, do you thinking should reduce solids? Sorry to hijack your thread!

Thanks for the responses. It is hard getting the balance right between food and milk but as you say babybouncer it's best to be just led by our babies.

Flippajh I think I need to start introducing some protein now. How did you introduce the chicken or fish? Mashed down with some veg?

Er1507 I think I give pretty much similar to you per meal. I think DD2 could possibly eat more but I try to rein her in a bit! I wouldn't reduce the amount of solid you give, I think if they're enjoying it and hungry for them you should just go with it. How many other bottles does she have besides the bedtime one? DD2 has 4 but I think she will drop the mid-morning one pretty soon.

I just microwaved one block of the frozen cod portions (2 mins) and then once it had cooled it just flakes up into about 4/5 ice cube holes. Then just grab a couple of different veg cubes to go with it. I'm struggling to get her to take the midmorning milk, so am thinking she may drop it soon and then maybe increase her remaining 3 to say 8oz. I'm sure she'll let me know she needs more!

Was thinking the same. When she drops the mid-morning one I may just increase her others to 8-9 oz too.

My 8mo has 2 7oz bottles (am and pm) then 1 weetabix with milk/porridge and some fruit- maybe half a banana or some puree, lunch she has 3 baby rice cakes with hummous & veg sticks/sandwich made with one slice bread/half a slice of toast with scrambled egg, a yog and half a clementine, for dinner she has a small portion of whatever we're having eg a few strips off a cooked chicken breast a few fingers each of roast carrot& parsnip and some sweet potato followed by some small pudding-y type thing...
