BLW Poo

Sorry but this yes this is a thread about poo!

I've been BLW for about a month now and my DS was EBS and I'm still breastfeeding him.

Recently he has been straining a lot with his poo and its coming out semi solid with not as many bits in it but like a long thin sausage type poo and I can tell when he's doing it because he whimpers quite a lot. I have to lie him down with his nappy undone and hold his legs in the air for him to be able to push it out and me sort of guiding the poo so that he doesn't squish it under his bum. Erm, normal? :s

He's still on boiled vegetable finger foods and is 7 months today if that helps :)

Yep totally normal if you leave him to it it'll just sqish into nappy.

ScaryFairy28 · 09/01/2012 23:48

But why are you just giving him veg fingers give him everything it's much more fun!!

mamamona · 09/01/2012 23:55

I know I know I really should be giving him more stuff. How do you feed rice to a BLW baby, pre loaded spoon? I'm still quite a newbie at it but totally determined to stick to it, help please! Thanks for the poo advice!

Baby rice is rubbish and tasteless give him toast fingers with unsalted butter, cheese on toast, pancakes, sticky rice, pasta, anything at all! Have you seen the BLW page on Facebook or the BLW cookbook?

mamamona · 10/01/2012 00:15

No I didn't mean baby rice, proper basmati and all that. Oh he's had pasta! He's loving pasta/spinach combination and the toast fingers. Still wondering about rice as we're an Indian family and thats pretty much a staple. Also liquidy things like curry?

Totally agree with you on the baby rice thing though. Tastes like cardboard! Why do that to your child!?!

He will struggle with basmati for a long time. Give him some bread instead. Or cook a little bit of pasta to eat the curries with?

OneLittleBabyGirl · 10/01/2012 03:36

Curries are fine since you can give the food instead the curry. Make sure you cut a few pieces to baby friendly size. My DD loves curries but we are Indians Grin. She is 9mo and has chickens and all sorts of veg in curries. Btw once they get pincer they should be able to eat dahl too, anything lumpy basically. We eat lots of rice and DD can't handle it unless its risotto. But I just offer alternative carbs like pasta or bread I mentioned.

OneLittleBabyGirl · 10/01/2012 03:37

We aren't Indians I mean

You could always sit him up on the potty if you know when he's going, esp if he can already sit up, as it may be a better position to get it out. We did EC with DS & pretty much as soon as he started doing more solid poos from BLW/eating solids most poos went in the potty.
