Dd ready! Remind me about solids!

I'm just about to start solids with dd2. Dd1 took to mush really happily, ds never took mush at all. I'm currently steaming some sweet potato and a butternut squash. Blw (although I didn't know that was what it was called!) meant ds picking bits up with his hands and eating. But is there any harm in offering dd2 some furnish purée? I'll be led by her in that if she doesn't want it I won't push it. And does butternut sound like a good first food? It's been a while-feeling like a beginner...

Oh I think I'll have to follow this thread if that's ok. DS is due to start food soon and I could do with some ideas. My other 2 both weaned at 18ish weeks, this one will be 26 weeks so it's going to be a bit different.

I just sat dd down to dinner with the rest of us and she helped herself. Broccoli, carrots, potatoes she managed first try iirc.

At 6 months as long as you avoid nuts, honey and too much sugar/salt, they can eat with you.

But if you want to puree I'm sure squash is fine. Smile

Butternut squash is one of the first foods in annabel karmels book. I think it's important to be led by your LO as yourself know already. If he loves mush, feed her that way. If she's like your DS there's no way you can feed meaningful amounts with the spoon anyway!

Well-she loved holding the spoon and didn't mind too much that it had butternut squash on it. But the gag reflex still alive and well I think-copious vomiting. Not because she put spoon in too far, just when anything tried to go further than her mouth. Will give her fingers of veg when we all have tea and see what happens.
