My 7.5 month old DS was taking three solid meals a day until a week ago. He's been ill with a tummy virus, which has cleared up, but now has a cough ( been to docs who says it'll clear up) and now he keeps refusing his solids. I don't want to force it because I just want to comfort him all I can. Has anyone else had this experience? Will there be a problem when he's better trying to get him back on solids? I'm also prone to blocked ducts and breast problems - will i have to wean one meal at a time all over again?
Thanks for your collective advice... and wishing all a happy new year!!

Hi, my 7 mo DD has just got over an awful chest infection. She went back to the breast fall time for over a week as anytime I offered solids she'd take a little and promptly bring the whole lot back when she started coughing leading her to completely refuse food. She started feeling better Xmas eve so I offered some simple pureed fruit which she took at tea time. Over the past week I've managed to get back to two meals a day and she's cut back down to 5-6 bfs. Cannot advise re breast problems as thankfully just suffered a blocked duct once early on and my boobs have coped well with any changes in demand-sorry! Hope your DS is better soon, Happy New Year!

I think he'll be fine, he knows he likes solids, but your milk has antibodies & he still feels rough. Just keep making stuff available, I'm sure he'll want them soon. At that age I'd think of putting him in high chair for all my meals, hand him suitable finger foods while I ate & let him play or eat as he sees fit, put a tiny portion of porridge into a bowl & offer him a spoon, etc.

I don't think it'll be anything to worry about - he's obviously still feeling under the weather and the best thing for him is BM, and he'll be getting lots of comfort from you too :) Most of us go off food when we've been ill, that's what this sounds like.

Take your time with offering the solids again, and try what lljkk suggests :)
