New weaning and pheNOMinal amounts of poo

Started DS on solids just over a week ago. Wolfing down baby rice, sweet potato, apple, leeks and generally anything else with happiness and leaving barely a scraping behind. He's still on just one meal at lunchtime at the moment - normally a portion (am using the special Annabel Karmel freezer portion boxes so a nice little size) of sweet potato mixed with a little formula, and then apple with baby rice and formula again. It all goes, with happy smiles and wriggling feet.

However, his pooing has increased from maximum 1 a day to at least 3 - is this normal, or am I feeding him too much? I figured that he would tell me when he was full - he has never done so yet, I just leave it once he starts to slow down as I don't want to forcefeed him.

Hoping to start him on breakfast as well over the next week or so as he is doing so well, and still eating as much milk as he was before, so I am not cutting our any calories or nutrition, but before I do so, do I need to prepare myself for an enormous poonami...?!

thanks for your festive advice!

How old is he? FWIW DS thought all that food is for fun stuff was nonsense, he was a gannet from day one!

My son does an average of 3 a day now at 15 months, always has done. It's within the range of normal.

It sounds like he loves his food! By the way you will know if you see mums force feeding their babies. It's not simply slowing down (which might be because kitty walked pass), so don't worry as long as he looks eager and opening his mouth like a little bird.

You can't really over feed a baby unless you force feed. They will stop if they are full. Since he is so keen on solids, watch he is still taking in 500ml of formula, or NHS recommends you give vitamin drops.

And it's normal the poo goes dramatically smellier and more adult like. I remember DD has a phase where every nappy is a dirty one. She is blw so its slower on the uptake at the start. I would imagine it changes even faster with purees. Some babies do get constipated on introduction of solids. So do watch out on that.

SO helpful, thank you! he is 24 weeks and still taking on as much formula as he was pre-solids, so the little piggy is getting a lot of food at the moment. Definitely dramatic changes in consistency of poo, but clearly no trouble passing them. But you are quite right, he just loves his food and is not of the 'food for fun' school at all - more 'food for shovelling'...
