DD won't drink milk!

My DD of 5 1/2 months has been on solids for 4 weeks she's doing really well with it and loves her water but this week she has completely gone off her milk, she was drinking a few oz of each bottle at the start of the week but today has only had 4oz! I'v made sure to mix some in with her food and she has had water but she needs her milk! It's got so bad that now she seem scared of the bottle when she's see's it. She is teething at the moment and i know they can go off milk then. I have tried different bottles, new teats and a more grown up beaker (for 4months up) but nothing has worked. Any suggestions please?

If she seems scared of the bottle it may well be her teeth in which case I found that nelson teething granules really helped.

If she carries on like this though I would be tempted to reduce the quantity of her solids a bit so she hungrier for her milk.

Thanks,i did try the nelson teething power but didn't seem to make much differents. I did try giving her less food but she still wouldn't take her bottle, she doesn't even want it in the morning when her last bottle was 7pm the night before! I'v ordered a doidy cup hope that helps!

How is she getting on now? Is she taking her milk more? Have you tried a teething gel like Dentinox and/or Ibruprofen?

It may also help to give her some milk when she is sleepy, like when she is waking from a nap.

Sucking on a bottle will increase blood flow to the gums, this makes teething hurt more. Try some neurofen 20 no.s before you offer a bottle maybe

She is still being fussy with her bottles. I have tried putting teething gels on before her bottles but it doesn't help. She is now up every night for a feed witch she hasn't done for months :(

Neurofen. Seriously.

my dd did this! things that helped

feeding her when tired/sleepy.

feeding her standing up and rocking/walking around

sitting her in her carseat infront of the tv and feeding her like that! prob not recomended by the hv!

she gradualy got better, we had good days and bad days, i made her porridge so she had milk in that, added it to mashed foods etc and let her have cheesea and natural youg.

but i think she basicaly grew out of ita nd she settled on a pattern of 4 4oz feeds a day adn that combined with porridge made with formula meant she got her '20oz' a day!

o also what size teat is she on? moving my dd to a faster flow teat also helped, and experimenting with the temp of the milk, my dd likes it slightly warmer than body temp

and yes try calpol/nurofen 20mins or so before a feed.

My ds is going through this phase and it's driving me mad....I'm lucky if he takes 2/3 oz at any feed (8am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm). I give him baby rice in the morning straight after 8am feed....them some veg/fruit mush later in the day. He loves his solid food and even when I've not given him solids for a few days he still doesn't drink his milk!!! I'm worried he's not getting enough dairy. Sad Tried a tippee cup which he loves taking water from and still no joy. Should I offer yoghurt? Or will he just grow out of this phase?

beckie i offered yog to my dd, but yes she did just grow out of it, it is very frustrating tho :(

omg, am so glad i read these messages. i think i have one of these funny babies that don't drink milk. having 3 other babies who loved milk my dd no. 4 has been a battle to bottle feed since she was 3 weeks old. i only breastfed 4 3weeks.

From 4 months she took little more than 2 or 3oz max at each feed, so i started to wean then and she loved her solid food so much better than bottles. The only way i got milk into her was if she was sleepy or by walking about with her in my arms!! i put the milk in cereals, dinners or anything else i can so she's getting it someway.I give her abidec in case she's missing out on other vits. She only takes water from a sippy cup.

anyway, end of my story! i'm just glad there are other mums/dads having the same probs. sometimes we don't know what we're doing but we'll get there in the end and our babies will all be fine, strong and healthy. just not lovers of milk. Good luck x
