BLW help needed: 5mo ate my toast!

I've started weaning my 22wo DS on purees for the last couple of weeks as I didn't think he'd be able to start blw until he was 6m. I like the philosophy of BLW and wanted to get him more involved in mealtimes so today when I had my lunch I put him in his Bumbo and gave him two little soldiers of buttered toast to play with as that's what I was having, and I didn't want to start steaming some vegetables just for him to throw on the floor.

I didn't think he'd actually eat it!!

He played and mushed up the first one, then got distracted by the fruit bowl next to him, and then before I knew it he'd grabbed a bit of mushed up toast, stuffed it in his mouth and started chewing on it.

I haven't found enough bits of toast and crumbs to account for both soldiers (although I haven't gone all CSI on the dining room) but I think he might well have eaten a bit and now I don't know what to do because everything says don't give wheat etc until 6m.

Please someone tell me your lo has done this too and was absolutely fine and I don't need to worry!

There's no need to worry about it. I gave DD toast at 24wk and only afterwards DH told me off because toast has gluten. Sad I think it's because of allergies that they recommend you stick with low allergen food till 6mo. I do have eczema and hay fever myself, so I didn't give DD more toast until 26wk.

Oh phew. Thanks lilham. I won't give him any more until he's 6m but he seems fine (no allergic symptoms as yet) so hopefully we've got away with it.

Thank you!
