Cook the meals that you and the rest of your family like to eat, without salt, and give him that?

i cook a meal for ds (8 months old) then freeze the portions. He has fish pie, Spag bog, cottage pie, rice and chicken with veg, tuna pasta. for lunch ive started giving him bread soilders with different toppings. I struggle with finger food ideas that actually end up in his tummy (the scarambled egg ended up all over the floor!)

Can you give them sauces and tinned food like beans? I never know whats ok with the salt and sugar thing.

My dd2 is also 8 months and has a lot of the same food that we do but without the salt and hot spices. We're vegetarian and she has things like:

mild curries
cheesy polenta with vegetables
pasta/couscous with vegetables
pasta with lentil and apricot sauce
cauliflower cheese
pasta with veggies and Philadelphia cheese
mashed up egg yolk with rice and peas
lentil soup, tomato soup
mashed tofu with veggies
toast with mashed-up beans spread on it (I use tinned beans with no added salt or sugar, eg butter beans, haricot beans)
risotto

Like Denmarks' ds, she'll eat anything - unlike her older sister who became hysterical this evening when we tried to pursuade her to eat a piece of dumpling (sigh).

i make all my sauces as pct ones do have salt in, i wouldnt give him tinned stuff either as most have salt or sugar in. Ive found economy tin toms from tesco dont have sugar or salt but do have citric acid. Not sure whats worse!!

colditz · 07/01/2006 23:22

lindster, citric acid is just like lemon juice, I don't think it is a harmful one at all.

lindster · 07/01/2006 23:26

thats good then because hes been eating them! guess you just hear the word acid and think 'oh'.
