4 month old weaning....how much milk?

I have started to give my ds 'baby mush' on the advice of a specialist seen regarding health issues at 3 months. His day goes something like this
7am - 6/7 ounces
8.30 - baby rice
11am - 6/7 ounces
2pm - 6/7 ounces
4.30 - 6/7 ounces
6pm - veg mush
7 pm - 5/7 ounces then bed.
Will still normally wake for one feed in the night - anywhere between 12 and 4am - sometimes takes a whole bottle.
He is now on the 75th centile for weight - but I am worried he us eating too much? Does this sound like way too much for a 4.5 month old? I get conflicting advice/information all the time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As you are weaning your child at four months on the advice of a health professional, I would ask them how much milk your child should be having in addition to the solids you are giving.

I would do that but I'm not back at the specialist till January!? Not sure how to contact them before that? Just wondered if i was 'doing it right' until then?

I would want to speak to a doctor about it too - seeing as you have had specific advise for a health issue I don't know if anyone else can tell you if you're doing it right!

How about asking your HV or GP?

Yeah could ask hv but she was very sceptical about weaning in the first place. Not sure how helpful she'd be. But I can try. 3 week wait for our gp unless an urgent matter. I'll try hv and see what she says first. Smile

Can I ask what the health issues are? Someone might have experience and be able to help more.

He had severe reflux. He is still on gaviscon and is now gaining weight well.

There must be a way of getting hold of the specialist and leave a message for them. If you take advice from others it will be part advice from one and part from another which doesn't make sense.

I think you need to find out what the aim of early weaning is, why the specialist suggested it - was to reduce milk feeds, or to thicken milk feeds, or add calories etc? The answer to that will probably tell you how much milk to give.
